DD too unwell to finish some of her GCSE today!

My DD had to come out of her exam today as she was so unwell. She completed around 75% of the questions before the invigilator had to virtually carry her out! Now she’s worried about how they will mark that paper. The school are submitting an adjustment request but I don’t know if that will help in this circumstance. Any advice/info from someone in the know, will be gratefully received, by both of us! Thank you! 😊

My DS keeled over in GCSE Italian ... got a doctor's letter and submitted to the board with school backing. I can't remember the % of extra marks it gave him but it was enough to give him an A. Hope it works out for you.

It will be marked as normal and then special consideration will be applied. Only the school can apply.

Thank you so much. Appreciate your replies. I’ve waded through the info and seems the special consideration % is pretty much of waste of time anyway. Just hoping she can pull back some marks in paper 3. Already wants to resit and she’s a determined thing and was so upset. Stroll on….! 😊

Can you get her a doctors appointment today, so that you have a note to support the school applying for special consideration?

Yes , good idea, thank you. When I spoke to the examiner yesterday she didn’t mention she would need one, and I didn’t think to ask at the time, as she saw how ill daughter was, but I will do that for back up as well.Thank you. 👍🏻

Find out who is the exams officer at your daughter's school - they will be responsible for submitting special consideration requests.

If she's already sat two papers and likely done well on paper one, she may be better off not sitting paper 3 at all if she's still very unwell (same for any exams tomorrow). It's possible to get a compensated grade without sitting all the papers, as long as you've sat a certain % of them, so I'd seriously consider whether this is a better option.

I'd also add that 1-2% special consideration might not seem like much, but it may be what's needed to tip her over into a higher grade boundary, so still worth applying for!
