GCSE - Special Consideration

Hi there. DS is ill with a virus - fever, nausea, headache etc. He has to sit a GCSE tomorrow morning. Went to the GP to try and get evidence to submit to the exam board, and GP confirms DS is ill, but says they don't do letters or sick forms for schools. Help! How do I get evidence of illness that can be submitted so that Special Consideration can be given if he is throwing up tomorrow? GP says he could be ill for another couple of weeks.

They don’t allot percentages when students miss an exam.

They take an average by looking at how every student performed across the country, and base it on that.

I read that as he was taking the exam but was poorly not missing it completely.

He has gone in for the exam, but is running a fever and was shaking. He is sitting it in a separate room. He doesn't want to miss any of the exams.

So if they are ill for some exams but have sat others when well is it better for them to miss the exam entirely?

No! Special Consideration/the award of marks based on already sat papers isn’t guaranteed so I’d always send them in unless they really, really couldn’t manage it. Otherwise everyone would be missing certain papers (e.g paper 2 of Eng Lang is more challenging than paper 1)

Hope he is okay OP. You must be proud of him for going in. Lemsip max strength flu tablets are helpful if 16 or over.
