Does examiner know that a candidate had extra time?

Y10 DD has just been assessed for Exam Access Arrangements and granted extra time.

Will the examiner marking their paper be aware of this?

Although I suspected DD had some minor difficulties I didn't think that they would be significant enough to warrant extra time but the assessment results confirmed that the school would apply for this accommodation.

Just wondering if there is any disadvantage to having extra time?

No disadvantages. Your DD doesn’t have to use the extra time but it’s there if she needs it. Invigilators obviously know, but not those who mark the number papers.

Not necessarily- a lot of schools make them stay for the extra time regardless of whether they use it.

@jonnyhatesjazzzzz you are quite right. Maybe I didn’t make myself clear. OPs daughter doesn’t have to use the extra time. In some settings - depending on practicalities - she may have to stay in her exam seat, but can do so with her paper closed or she can use just some of her extra time and then either leave or sit and chill out depending on how the school are managing the exams.

DD is surprised and a bit upset at being granted extra time as she is high achieving and this assessment is the only test she has ever scored below average in.

What can I say to reassure her that this assessment does not define her? She's now saying she is now noticing she doesn't have a good short term memory but I think the opposite is true, I think she's got a great memory so we're both a bit baffled by the results.

I was concerned about her handwriting but she scored above average on that part of the test.

Lots of very able candidates have extra time for a range of reasons.
