Sutton Grammar Mock Tests

Has anyone had any experience of these tests? Debating booking a test for my child but worried as they are particularly anxious. I am concerned it may make them worse for the real tests.

We did these and thoroughly recommend - yes, it's a bit anxiety-inducing but nothing like walking into the real thing with no practice! Also - don't be put off by getting.a low score in the mocks - it's marked on a bell curve and is an atypical sample that does it so although our DS scored quite low, he passed the real thing. We made it into a "fun day out" (with a bit of imagination required..) - train down there, ice cream afterwards etc...

Totally agree with ALongProcess . A friends daughter suffered from severe anxiety and they signed up last year for the Sutton Grammar mock tests in Sutton, Surrey. They contacted the admin team and they arranged for an invigilator to go in with them and keep an eye on them . She booked the first weekend they offered and then another session in the summer. By the second session she went in on her own and although nervous successfully did the real tests.
Its all about developing coping strategies which she felt these mocks helped her with.
Even if you do not think your child will be nervous , if they have never sat a formal test before under exam conditions it can be daunting.

I think they will be needing the ice cream and me a drink afterwards! @ALongProcess so your son felt it helped them? Glad to hear your child passed the real thing. You want them to try but worry about making it into a bigger thing than it needs to.

@11plussupport I hadn't thought about booking both tests. I might contact them about the anxiety. It is a relief to hear that they will help reassure them.

Both of my DC did the mock tests at Sutton Grammar and Wallington Boys. They are very well organised and a good experience for the real thing.

I’d focus less on the results (although you do get a very good break down of the marks) and more on going through the experience of queuing, checking in for the exam, taking the correct kit in, sitting in an exam hall and working under exam conditions, etc.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your suggestions everyone. I have been in contact with the people organising the tests and they have been so helpful and reassuring. They are going to have someone help settle them in to their seat. Decided to go for both tests. 🤞
