Waitlisted applicants will only get a letter if they get an offer.

Teene · 28/03/2024 16:08

The 2nd round window in my area opens on 2nd April

Mother007 · 28/03/2024 16:36

We got an offer on the 2nd round as well

Supamum3 · 28/03/2024 17:33

We got an offer on second round yesterday

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/03/2024 17:54

We got a second round offer on Monday - directly from the school

Nicky198 · 28/03/2024 18:34

Did the borough email you or the school ? I’m so confused - we got told the second round will be today but I haven't received anything

I was emailed directly by the school. It is a selective grammar which is it's own admissions authority. So I was told by the school and LA that the LA would coordinate the first round and acceptances/declines that had to be done within two weeks. Then one week or chasing. Then they would know what places withdrawn or declined. School would then handle second round which is what happened

If it's a state school the formal offer should come from the borough. It will offer you a place and ask you to accept or decline. But the school usually sends a welcoming message too, so maybe the borough offer got delayed in the post and the school's message got to you first.

I got emailed by our council for second round but we were late applicants due to an international move.

Sunflowers189 · 28/03/2024 20:24

Would any one mind disclosing what councils have started with their offers?
we are waiting for Bromley council.
thanks

@rainbowoclock - it is a selective grammar which is its own admissions authority. The LA confirmed prior to offer that the school (as an academy and it's own admissions authority) would make any second round offers on receipt of the waiting list from the LA and information of acceptances/declines/withdrawals This is the norm for all of the grammars in our area. The LA is only co-ordinating second round offers for the non-selectives. If we didn't want the offer, we were told to reject it directly with the school.

When I received the offer and had accepted it, I called the LA admissions team to check all in order and to confirm we didn't need the other school place allocated to us.

I think why this is all very confusing is because all the LAs seem to have slightly different ways of running things.

It was the LA's with the grammar schools that refused to fall in line with Government policy, thereby creating their own path back in the day, so I guess they're still doing that. 🙂

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/03/2024 22:01

That's interesting to know! When I did speak to (the very helpful) LA admissions team, they said that they only had one school which was not its own admissions authority and they actually had some control over. The rest were. They did do more with the non-selectives but I got the distinct impression that the grammars did their own thing and it was like herding cats. 😂. I did ask what would happen for second round with the grammars and she said words to the effect of "oh they are their own admissions authority so they just do what they like".

rainbowoclock · 28/03/2024 23:26

Well all the secondaries in my area are their own admissions authorities too, but they all still use the LA's coordinated admissions service, at least from National Offer Day up to September. After that, one or two may opt out and do it themselves, but most seem to stick with the LA.
