Online A level maths and further maths practice?

Hi, I don’t know if anyone (maths teachers or home edders?) can help me. I know this is a question that cuts across a number of topics but I thought I would start here as there is probably more traffic.

I have a y12 ds who has just been diagnosed with autism and is highly anxious. He claims to be interested in his A levels and is attending most of the lessons but is refusing to do any of the homework. Obviously this means he isn’t getting any practice and the teacher is unable to ascertain what he doesn’t understand. He is not short of talent at maths (did very well in maths challenges before COVID) but his anxiety is getting in the way of his learning. After tearing our hair out for months we have finally got him to explain why he isn’t handing anything in - he’s terrified of getting it wrong and not living up to what everyone expects of him. (His dad is a maths professor so it’s not difficult to work out where this comes from, but here we are.)

I think he might be able to bring himself to attempt some practice if he could be absolutely confident that only he and the computer would ever know if he gets it wrong. The school has a subscription to Integral Maths and I think that is basically what we need only without his teacher being able to see what he has done. We don’t mind paying for a subscription but I am aware there’s a lot out there of different qualities. And he doesn’t really need online lessons, just to do some questions and have them marked, so it would need to not be something that forced you to watch a video before you can progress.

Does anyone have any recommendations or other suggestions about online resources for A level maths and further maths practice? Many thanks x

Dr frost maths

You can set it up yourself as a parent or as a student.

There are lots of questions on there and you can choose the a level board.

Thank you!
Looks like that one is free as well.

Dr Frost Maths is excellent.

Naiker Maths and Mathsgenie also have good resources.

Thank you. This is really helpful!
When I was googling I found one called Uplearn which costs £500 but you get your money back if you don’t get an A or an A* 😮 I bet you would have to follow it exactly as prescribed though or it won’t be valid.

integral is pretty decent and would seem to fit what you need, so I'm not sure why you'd look for something else?

FWIW, an alternative is Thinkwell - they do various maths subscriptions - not specifically aligned with A level but covering a lot of the same stuff.

The TLMaths youtube channel / google site is also good but mainly tutorial videos rather than exercises.

Ds won’t use Integral through the school’s subscription because then his teachers will be able to see him get things wrong. If it’s possible for me to get him a personal subscription to it then that would be an option, annoying as it would be to pay for something he already had if only he could bring himself to use it. None of this is rational.

Thank you for the Thinkwell suggestion!

Try physics and maths tutor website. Not sure how they are for a-level maths but free for gcse stuff.
I remember from my days lots of questions have show a = b so you know it's right!

you can get a personal subscription to integral - they recently (within last 2 weeks) had an offer for access for £45 until 30th June.

a free option for single maths is Seneca, there's nothing wrong with it, but I don't rate it as highly - it's more for recapping stuff in the week or two before the exam, rather than for learning it thoroughly in the first place, and it doesn't cover further.

Ah yes, it’s £72 for both maths and further maths till June.

Maths teacher here. What he needs most is Dr Frost maths. He will get instant feedback on each question he does. It is really good.

I'd go with Dr Frost as recommended by pythag as a maths teacher but was popping on here to say DD used Uplearn and found it v good - it had videos (she ran them as 1.5x speed) then practice. She was getting some lower grades on assessments and needed an A for uni which she got. To get the refund, I think they are clear about how many modules you need to complete. I paid for the higher service but she didn't need it. I also liked that it was specifically designed for particular boards/courses.
She put in a load of work on it.
