Norwood school waiting list

Does anyone know if the Norwood School or Kingsdale waiting list traditionally has any significant movement? My daughter was very disappointed not to receive a place at Norwood as she fell in love with the place.

My DC is in y7 at Norwood. I only have anecdotal evidence but it seemed as though there was a fair amount of movement last year. On offers days, we were one of the furthest offered places based on the published data but post offers several friends further away for offered waiting list places (not bursary). It felt like there was a fair amount of movement.

I think less movement for kingsdale. We were 40 something in top band but never got offered a place. But very pleased we got Norwood now.

Kingsdale was our first choice but didn’t get it yesterday - with 2 half scholarships we’re trying to stay optimistic. Not sure about Norwood. Anecdotally again, we have a friend whose son, now in yr 9 of Kingsdale, got offered there five weeks before the start of term, and took it. Don’t think he had any scholarships. So I think things can move a great deal.

Thank you. Fingers xd there is some movement. Heartbreaking because her primary is directly opposite Norwood but we live 2400 metres away. It’s lovely school that has obviously grown in popularity over the years.

Hello! Do you know many that received a place? We are patiently waiting for the next round.

Two from our primary that I know of. We’re just going to sit tight for a while.

Hi, I don't have any experience of Norwood School but there is always a lot of movement on the Kingsdale waiting lists. My child was in the mid 30s on the waiting list for Kingsdale (we got an email about it the day after offer day) and by mid May they were offered a place. Friends of mine in previous years were offered places before school started having been in the late 90s on the waiting list. But last year I know someone in the 70s who still hasn't got in on a waiting list place (they are still holding out for it despite being at another good local school as they wanted co-ed). Obviously it depends on what band they are in, I don't think I was ever told what band my child was in so I can't help with that.

So found out we are in the 200’s for Kingsdale in Band 1 and 80’s for scholarship. Guessing there’s no chance.

Bilingualspingual · 04/03/2024 11:10

We’re 300 for banding and 40 for scholarship. Not feeling hopeful either. Quite sad actually.

Sorry to hijack your thread - did you hear anything more from Norwood?

JoannaDW · 04/03/2024 11:26

No news yet. May not hear for another couple of weeks until after the acceptance deadline passes. Kingsdale sent an email this morning giving us a ridiculous place on on their list, so don’t hold out much hope for choice 2. Really hope Norwood come through for her.

Based on last year, we knew people up to the 30s who got places eventually (can't remember if it was on banding or scholarship). Don't know anyone into the 100s that did. (Edit. This is for Norwood, not Kingsdale)

Sunflowers189 · 04/03/2024 16:58

What’s odd is the admissions policy states that the waiting list is subject to randomisation again. So maybe their waiting list position can change quite dramatically.

Sunflowers189 · 05/04/2024 08:04

Hello! Anyone had any news regarding wait list?

JoannaDW · 05/04/2024 11:36

I emailed Lambeth and we are 23rd on the Norwood appropriate banding list. I don’t think we’ll get offered a place. Probably still about 300th on Kingsdale! My daughter was quickly invited to a meeting at her third choice school and is now really happy and at peace with going there. Even to the extent that she now says she should’ve put it first! Now got to trust that all will be well.

Also worth adding that the allocation according to distance for Norwood has significantly shrunk this year. So those like us who live slightly further out would have missed out on a place. Last year we would have been fine.

It's not odd at all - the Admissions Code requires that any list based solely on random selection (as opposed to e.g. a set ranking with only a tied place being decided in that way) must be reranked whenever anyone joins the list. Because that person cannot be put at the bottom of the list just because they applied later, so they have to be allocated a position by randomisation. So yes, theoretically, the applicant currently furthest away from an offer could later on find themselves at the top (or vice versa).

So I’ve actually received clarification regarding this. Their placement doesn’t change after the first placement.
so I am completely baffled.

But also we've somewhat settled with what we have, so I’m not as concerned

Oh god. We are a few years off but I thought we were going to be ok for Norwood if nowhere else.... I don't think we're inside a single catchment now apart from religious schools (and we're not)

LostittoBostik · 26/04/2024 19:42

OP can I ask what school your Dd did get into?

JoannaDW · 26/04/2024 19:47

She got offered Coloma but we are Catholic anyway. She’s very happy now as she’s sporty and loves their facilities.

Wow that's quite a long way away. I really don't understand how secondary applications work - it seems so so complicated. Better get reading up...

hi, did your child get a place after all? my son is 33 on scholarship waitlist. am hoping there is some movement.

Bilingualspingual · 04/03/2025 13:00

Hi, he didn’t. We took him off the list at autumn half term as he loved his school so much and didn’t want to move even if he’d got a place. So it can work out. We’re very happy with his school and feel lucky that it happened this way.

JoJo5kids · 04/03/2025 16:41

oh really, im trying to be so hopeful that the list may move as from previous years being in the 30's alot of children got a space by 1st september.

My son got our 2nd choice but he really wanted kingsdale.

thanks for sharing
