Slough Grammar school places

DD sat Slough Consortium of grammar school test and scored above 111. We put all 4 Slough grammar schools on the CAF, Burnham Grammar on the 5th spot and good mainstream secondary school on the 6th spot. Our postcode falls in the second priority area for Langley Grammar. She has been offered a place at one of the nearby schools which was no where on the list.

Has anyone else not been offered a place at Slough grammar schools when their child was eligible?

This is completely normal. Last year you needed 114 if you were in the second priority area. I have not found the information for this year but would be interested if anyone knew where to find it.

yes, for Slough this is completely normal.
I am assuming your child got 111-114 which, while a pass, will not automatically get a place unless your child is high enough in the selection criteria. Get on the waiting lists for the declined grammars (contact them to check) as there is some movement, but every year there are 6000+ children sitting this exam which means 2000+ “111 or more passes” but only 700 places between the four grammar schools:
you can see from the maths that many “passing” children will not get places.

Burnham Grammar only gives places to children who have passed the seperate Bucks exam, and are priority (pupil premium or sibling), or either in cachement (South Bucks resident) or within about 1.5-2 miles of the school (a small part of Berkshire Burnham, Cippenham and Manor Park) So if you live over in Uxbridge that’s a wasted choice, I’m afraid.

Lastly your “highly performing secondary”: were you in cachement or a feeder school for this? Because if not, that’s wht your child didn’t get in and therefore the council can allocate you any school they like quite legitimately.’That’s why you should always put at least ine non selective school you are in cachement for.

Sorry not to be more positive, but this is quite a common thing if parents don’t put down at least one secondary they have a reasonable chance for.
