we are looking at several offers for our DD and struggling a bit to make a choice in the coming days. Would really welcome insights from actual parents at these schools as to what you like/don’t like. We don’t feel strongly on co-ed v girls-only. Distance/logistics sort of similar. She’s academically bright but also outgoing, into sports and expressive arts. Really grateful for inputs on what’s under skin of these schools and how you would compare/contrast…thanks so much

@ForTaupePombear , usually you and DC get to meet parents in the year group in summer term and you can ask. Depends on clubs, sports , music etc on your secondary schools timetables.

Can I ask if anyone children are currently in Emanuel or will be going in Sept who lives in Kensington area? What are the options regarding travelling to school? Do parents carpool?

Yes parents carpool, there are also some groups of kids taking the tube together.
At the parents induction evening you’ll be grouped with parents living in your area. The parents association also organises WhatsApp travel groups by area you could join prior to the school year starting.

Thank you. That is good to know.

I wonder why didn’t they have a school coach if anyone knows?

Because it's only a short walk from Clapham Junction Station and you can access the school by train from all over London? Everyone I know who had/have kids at Emmanuel used the trains. I should think school coach uptake would be minimal compared to kids being able to get there for free on public transport.

Thank you!

I agree - nearly everyone either travels by train into CJ or by public bus (a few live close enough to walk). DS1 has a few friends who live towards West Kensington. I think they take the overground from West Brompton but it depends what’s easiest route from where you are. We have found a group in his year who travel in from same station as us (SW London) so the journeys are mostly pretty easy. DS2 joining in Sept too!

I believe there were talks of having a coach service for the lower years (6 and 7) I’m not sure of the outcome. As previous posters have said most kids travel by public transport, walk, cycle and some are driven. Bear in mind that kids will have different schedules once they’ve chosen what sport practices they want to do (which are either before or after school).

@ForTaupePombear my son will start Emanuel School this September, first option for him is to take the overground from Kensingt Olympia to Clapham Junction and walk. The other alternative is to take the bus (which will take longer esp in the mornings)

Hello,

My son has just started at Emanuel. May I ask if there are any children traveling to Emanuel from the Knightsbridge area? Do you know the best option for getting to the school?

Thank you,

Kim

Schools usually have class or year group whatsapp or another type of platform. Worth asking to see if there is a group to travel together or get suggestions. Otherwise use TFL website for route options.

MarchingFrogs · 06/09/2024 08:00

The simplest journeys suggested by TfL Go involve two buses and a c.10 minute walk at the other end.

(Not a London resident myself any more, but sussing out the public transport route to secondary school is something that we considered for our DC in advance of applying and got them to practice as soon as we knew where they were going...).

Hello everyone, my son just started Emanuel School (Year 7) and he’s travelling from Kensington Olympia. If anyone would like, the kids can meet with each other and travel together. Having said that, maybe they have already met at school :) have a nice day!
