SW London secondary - dyslexia friendly

Our DS is at state primary and we're looking at both state and independent schools for secondary.

We have a possible state option that has good SEN provision, but we live far away so an application would have to be based on his SEN needs and not through the usual proximity/sibling rules. No EHCP currently and possibly wouldn't meet criteria.

Having said that, we think smaller class sizes would be less overwhelming.

He's sporty and has mild dyslexia. Great at STEM subjects, weaker in English, writing and SPAG.

We're also looking into autism. He seems to be struggling with some social interactions. He has friends but can be susceptible to bullying from the more alpha personalities.

He needs a kind school that prioritises pastoral and deals effectively with bullying. Any ideas for schools in SW London that could work?

Thanks

You have just described my DS and he is very happy ( as are we) at Halliford. Not sure here you are in SW London but its definitely worth a look

Hi, thanks for post. How long have you been at Halliford and what are the main sports there? We hear it’s oversubscribed so no guarantee he’d be offered.

Also is the cohort very local or coming in from far and wide?

We are eyeing-up Kew House as an option for my similar sounding child, they seem to have a relatively high proportion of SEN children which makes me think they will very used to catering for things like dyslexia. I know some families already there and they speak highly of it and the support their children have received. The Head was impressive at open day, speaking a lot about value add for each child.

I have sent you a rather long (sorry) private message. Didn’t want to be too outing on the board

Thanks for your replies.

We haven't seriously considered Kew House because of the lack of outdoor space and sports facilities on site. It's also a tricky journey.

Would love to hear more suggestions. We're near Hampton and would like to stay local if possible.
