The best schools in Worcester?

Really interested in people’s thoughts on the best state secondary schools in Worcester.

We had always planned on educating privately but the potential VAT rise plus COL puts us off.

So, could anyone please tell me the best schools in Worcester? We might have to move house now to be in catchment. Is Hanley Castle still considered the best and would it be worth me moving out in that direction?

Don't know much about Hanley Castle as its a fair bit out of Worcester so not one we considered.

Are you in Worcester city now? Are there any other schools you have been considering?

What year is your DC in? Have you spoken to any other parents who have got kids at the school?

Looking at it (online) and comparing it to the school my DC goes too, I am not sure i would move for it but again it's all personal preference.

Nunnery Wood or Blessed Edward Oldcorne. Blesseds is a bit more nurturing. Nunnery good all round.
Hanley is nice, my friend's children went there. It does have a fair few pony owning types there if that's your bag.

At the moment, a lot of the state schools have gone downhill. Which is no surprise, because the government isn’t bothered about funding them.

Schools I would definitely avoid;

Bishop Perowne - my friend is a safeguarding officer there. She says that there are suicide attempts every week. Sad

Dyson Perrins - all I hear about this place is the horrific, physical and mental bullying that goes on that is not addressed by the school.

One of my children used to go to Nunnery Wood HS. And whilst I think it is a good school and its value added score is good it is very big and there was an endemic problem of students in year 11 bullying the youngest in the school.

My other child went to Tudor Grange Academy. The good thing about this school is the focus on discipline and behaviour. Very badly behaved children are segregated in a separate building. But the teaching is not that great. My daughter left with reasonable GCSEs but she should have done better. She went elsewhere for 6th form and got much better A Level results. She also complained to me about a high turnover of staff which caused problems with the teaching and course continuity.

Yes, agree about Hanley being pony owning types. Quite a few girls at my daughter's yard go to Hanley.

Thankfully this hasn't been our experience. 1st few days she mentioned some pushing in the corridors which is probably to be expected and it is a very large school. But nothing more serious.

It's a good school and gets good results. It's large so probably won't suit everyone.

But pleased we got that over Tudor or Bishops.

Blesseds has a good name but not one we considered as we didn't want Catholic school.

Christopher Whitehead - over River. Have seen mixed comments about it.

Tudor - popular but i wasn't keen. Hard to get a place due to a large catchment area and not a lot of places. You would really need to be very close to school or have child at Perdiswell primary to guarantee place.

Bishops - it was fine. It's still struggling to get over it's bad rep but more and more kids are having to go there as schools oversubscribed.

How old is your child currently, and what sort of area are you in? It would be best to go and have a look at any schools you would consider, the same thing won’t suit everyone, and you will hear differing opinions on most schools. I’ve heard some not so great things about Blesseds, and equally know several people with kids at Bishops who are very happy with it.

If you want to go out of the city, maybe have a look at the Chantry.

Bishop Perowne is amazing.

BP is a great school.
Your safeguarding friend clearly doesn’t understand confidentiality if this is the claptrap she’s passing on.
