Hello everyone

We got an offer for both Latymer Upper and Godolphin and we're finding hard to decide

Is there anyone here attending these schools who want to give me some insight?

Pro and cons?

Reputation wise (in view of university) which school fo you think is better?

Many thanks 😊

Thank you everyone! My DC is certainly shy. Really helpful to be able to leverage MumsNet for genuine views and advice. Fingers crossed we also love our choice to opt for LU! Have a great weekend all. I am certainly glad LU has a diverse mix of children.

We feel very fortunate to have had offers from schools and this is what also made the decision quite tough.

I have a son at LU and a daughter at G&L and happy to answers any questions about the schools. Both are happy and have had positive experiences. Personally we felt a single sex education was better for our daughter while co-Ed was better for our son. We didn’t have to consider the changes at LU at GCSE level but this, in my opinion, is a really positive change.

I’m in the same boat. Having to choose between LU and GL. They are both very different schools. Where is the pastoral care stronger? Which has a better SEN department? Which has greater flexibility in their curriculum to adapt to say bilingual language needs? Where are the girls happiest? So difficult to get an accurate reading.

I don't really think it's possible to say where girls are happiest as will depend on so many things.
In terms of SEN departments etc they will be similar.
Lots of bilingual kids at both schools. There will be some taking GCSEs in a language early.
Do you or your daughter not have a gut feel about which school you'd prefer. Are the LU curriculum reforms something you for or against?

I like the forward thinking of Latymer but the smaller all girls feel of GL. Latymer seems to be more flexible than GL but that might be an impression

I have a Yr 5 girl preparing for 11+, she is fairly academic, not too sporty (I'd say a solid average at most sports, good at a couple of things but not the"squad" type), and we are located in west London. The "obvious" choices for us are LU, G&L and SPGS. There will be other "backup" choices but the question today is very much about LU & G&L. There is no real preference between single-sex vs co-ed schools, no real preference between GCSE vs own curriculum.

I would very much appreciate honest opinions from mums on this platform. Please do send me a PM if you are happy to share your experiences with me. Secondary school choice is such a big decision!

I have heard from some parents (with daughters at G&L) that G&L girls can come across as a little "sharp-elbowed", and there was an uncomfortable comment about race which I am not going to share here. My daughter is mixed-race, I am obviously concerned about this type of issues. There was a comment about LU relating to drug use, and that the school is leaning more towards sporty kids. These are just some of the things I heard from parents with kids at LU and G&L.

There will be problems and problematic kids at every school, it is very much how the school management chooses to deal with these problems that matter, and of course, the "general feel" of the place.

any help would be much much appreciated! thanks!
