School trip to France

So, my year 10 son is due to go to France with the school in May. Hubby is concerned regarding terrorist threat level in France, and just yesterday 2 migrants were found in the luggage hold of a school coach coming back from France. He wants to cancel, we'll lose any money already paid unless another child takes his spot. I don’t know if he's just being overly cautious. Would you let your child go? They will be doing EuroDisney and other touristy stuff.

Yes I would let him go. Anything can happen anywhere. Probably nothing will happen anywhere.

Kosenrufugirl · 13/02/2024 15:34

Illegal immigrants in the luggage hold aren't terrorist. My son is currently in France on the school skiing trip. Admittly not on EuroDisney trip. I would say one has just as much chance being blown up by terrorists in a large metropolitan area where I live as in France. I wouldn't ruin your son's trip I would let him go

To France? yes of course! Mine is a bit older but recently went to Albania, which did worry me a tiny bit. Not enough to stop her going.

Would definitely let him go- wouldn’t even cross my mind not to.

My DD is going on a trip to France soon - wouldn’t cross my mind to prevent her from going. There are risks everywhere. He is definitely being over cautious.

Mine is going to France too. I hadn’t considered that it’s any worse than London where we go frequently? I hope not. She’d be devastated if I said she couldn’t go.

Even if that happened, it wouldn't put your child in any danger.

And think the terrorist threat level is pretty high in UK too.

KnickerlessParsons · 13/02/2024 17:56

Current U.K. terrorist threat level is SUBSTANTIAL.

Mine are off to Poland and Czechia. I admit there is a slight wobble... but things can happen anywhere.

They are more likely to run into civil unrest, especially if there on May Day.

AGoingConcern · 13/02/2024 20:55

I would let mine go. I consider the risk the same as going to any large UK city.

I am in France. I probably face more threats when I’m at home and going into work. I’d definitely let him go. Fwiw our son had a school trip to Paris last year (aged 16) and we sent him alone on an overnight train from south of France, he crossed Paris and found his school at Gare du Nord later that morning.
