A level offers

It's been many years since I did A levels, and when I did, the school have me an offer to study x,y and z( my 3 choices) dependant on gaining the correct grades.

DD has applied to study 3 a levels at her current school. Her offer however, is just for a place in the sixth form ( assuming pass GCSE) with no guarantee of subjects. Is this normal? She could get amazing grades, but no place to study her chosen subjects??

The BTech is in theatre production. The college doesn't offer any A levels at all. The only college that offers A levels doesn't offer anything in textiles or theatre. We clearly live in the wrong place!!!!!

If the courses aren’t widely offered then maybe there’s a reason for that. Maybe it’s not that useful for what she wants to do. Can she look at where she wants to be and work back from that? What backgrounds and qualifications do the people whose jobs she’d love to do have? What A Level subjects are mentioned by universities/specialist colleges offering courses she is interested in.

Have you considered a state boarding school for sixth form? You pay for the boarding element but the education is free, just like any other state school. To give you an example, Wymondham College has recently been inspected by Ofsted and is judged Outstanding across the board. They offer Art & Design (Textiles), Drama & Theatre as well as Mathematics and Further Maths at A Level.

Sorry I meant is the BTEC going to take up her whole sixth form time (ie a L3)? or will she have to do other subjects alongside it?

I agree tbh - if these subjects were vital for her choice of career they would be more in demand.

Can she not do A levels in drama, maths and AN Other?

State boarding, or indeed any boarding is not an option. I boarded and I can't let a child of mine go through that. Also we can't afford even state boarding. ( but thanks for the suggestion, as it might have been useful if things were different! ) Got an e mail through from her tutor. Looks like textiles might run, the issue is with theatre studies.....We have some thinking to.do!
