Hello all - Do you recommend Gunnersbury Catholic School for a boy good at Maths and Science but not very sporty? My son will go to Year 9 in Sep this year and we are thinking if this school would be a good fit for him. Thank you!

This is a state school I think OP? If so then it’s a question of whether it has a year 9 place. I don’t know the school but as it is outstanding its student population is probably pretty static.

Is your DS currently at a different school in England, or are you moving to the UK?

Thanks @clary. My DS is currently at a full boarding school at Somerset which is 3 hours drive away from our home around Chiswick. We are trying to move him to a school closer to home.

Hi. Is your son going to Gunnersbury?

Have you thought of the London Oratory or Cardinal Vaughan if you're Catholic?

Rainydayinlondon · 01/03/2024 23:35

If private, there are lots of schools in the West London area.

We’re not catholic, so don’t seem to have chance for these schools unfortunately

Hi. Is your son going to Gunnersbury?

We’re just exploring at the moment. We asked the council, then accept application for Sep 2024 entry only after Jun 2024

Would be grateful for some recommendations on good private schools, just in case we can’t secure a place in state school - TIA

I know 2 families whose sons go there (yr 10, yr 7). Both families are pleased with the school. Think it is well run and nurturing. Kids seem happy when we see them and the yr 7 has found the transition smooth.
Try joining Ealing & Northfields friends on Facebook and asking. There will be loads of people with first hand experience. Good luck with your move.

Gunnersbury is a fantastic school. I have a son in year 7 and another due to start in September. I can highly recommend. You don't have to be sporty as there is something to suit every boy. Lots of clubs and extra curricular activities. Also gets far better results at GCSE than Cardinal Vaughan or London Oratory. A lovely, down to earth, nurturing school - go for it!

cartiersantos · 03/03/2024 22:59

It is a Catholic school so you won't have a chance here either.

I looked at info on their website and it seems that they accept students with no faith as well?

We love Gunnersbury, fantastic mix of academic, creative and sports something for everyone. They really encourage the boys to excel.
