I don't have any direct experience but I have been told it is a 'marmite' school - people either love it or they don't. I think they might call the teachers by their first names?

I went to an open day a few yrs ago because i was told it was very good, especially with dc who had SEN. When we visited, I was impressed by their commitment to SEN provision but wasn't so sure about their academics. DS really did not like it at all as it didn't give the vibe he wanted and seemed to have a distinct lack of academic energy about it if that makes any sense. I wasn't impressed by some of their depts e.g Art a subject which ds was very keen on. I think it's a good school for the right dc.

I have two children at Leighton Park and both have been extremely happy there. The school has Quaker roots and I would say the school elevates and values 'kindness' first and foremost, above athletics and academics. My kids have never reported any incidents of bullying or anti-social behaviour and the snob/materialism factor seems to be pretty much non existent. The schools seems to draw down to earth, nice families and I would say perhaps about 20 percent of the student body are boarders from Asia, mostly Hong Kong.

Between them, over the last 5 years, my kids have only had 1-2 teachers that were not very good. The rest of have been thorough, knowledgeable and dedicated. The school is pretty much 'all ability' and data gathered shows the school's academic value add (delta between academic scores upon arrival and GCSE's and A Levels later on) is one of the best in the nation.

Loads of after school activities on offer every term. School trips to China, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Azores, etc.

I would recommend the school to any family that prioritises a nurturing, supportive, kind environment and wants to avoid hothouse-stress and snobbishness.

Hi @Parentsabroad2024 - did you decide on LP for your Y9? We are looking at joining in-year but I am doubtful they will have a spot. Just would be good to get any feedback just in case there is!
