Hi everyone

I really do not know what to do anymore 😞
My sons manage move failed as he was seen watching a fight he was at this school for 13 weeks doing really well getting senco support as in waiting list to be diagnosed. He's in year 10 now and suppose to be doing mocks I feel so sad for him as he really did try. Currently main school have tried to find another school but have been unsuccessful they have put him on a online portal which might aswell be for primary aged students as the work is super simple and easy.
Currently no one getting back to me seems like they have just given up. Any advice on what to do next greatly appreciated❤️

Have a look at IPSEA on Facebook. Lots of good advice on there and how to get help. Otherwise can your county council SEN team support you?

KeepGoingThomas · 16/01/2024 14:35

When managed moves fail the pupil should return to their home school.

Have you requested an EHCNA.

LaCuntiatta · 16/01/2024 14:38

I'm so sorry - this sounds really tough!

I also thought children whose managed moves haven't worked out were meant to go back to the original school

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/01/2024 16:53

Who has put him onto an online portal- the original school or the managed move school? He should return to the original school whilst other plans are made. Were there any reviews during the time he was at the new school?

shellfone4 · 16/01/2024 17:07

There was 2 reviews and both went well but due to him being late to lessons sometimes they added an extra 6 weeks then failed him straight away 😞
Home school provided online learning 2 weeks after manage move failed. Also when schools started he missed another week off as they hadn't set online learning back up again so more time off I've called council who have advised me to make a complaint directly to school which I have done. Thank you I will follow this page on Facebook :)

Also school have said they cannot take him back this hasn't been a easy ride he was initially permanently exluded missed school for 6 months. Irp overturned exclusion as school also exluded before taking any statements of students in class. he walked out of class as a few children was making fun of him and barged past the teacher so they will definitely not allow him back.

Unless the home school has permanently excluded DS now he should be attending the home school in person. Why isn’t he?

Also if he can’t attend school full-time the LA has a duty ensure he receives a suitable full-time education.

Have you requested an EHCNA?

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 16/01/2024 19:27

OP- this does sound like a tough situation. Have school suggested any alternative provision? He will be on roll somewhere- perhaps with his original school if the permanent exclusion was over turned.

Branleuse · 16/01/2024 19:33

Has anyone suggested outreach teaching or a pupil referral unit? My DD is at a PRU but for medical rather than behavioural. I think I would urge for this rather than another normal school which just would be more of the same. He needs a different approach.
Some colleges will also let kids in a year early to do a course, although this is less common than it used to be, but worth asking?

shellfone4 · 17/01/2024 14:55

Hi all, thanks for reply's

I have just received a email from home school satin they would like consent to complete a gateway referral to get support from local council, has anyone gone through this before ?

@Branleuse thank you for your reply
Local units are all full. But I will look into collèges I've not heard of that before would I need to contact them directly or would school approach?

@Ratsoffasinkingsauage thank you it really is just feel he's missed so much school already he is on roll at home school but they have put online portal in place for him until they found a school which most schools are full in the area

I think it's unlikely a college would accept him in this scenario, although it's worth a try.

Is the LA aware he is not currently receiving an appropriate education?

If the exclusion was overturned, the home school should have him back- as in back in the building and back in lessons. If he is still excluded, then the LA have a duty to try and get him back into education?

I do wonder if alternative provision such as a PRU would be the best way forward. Do you know what is available locally?

cansu · 17/01/2024 23:11

Start looking into alternative provision. Ask your local council for a list of the providers they work with. Research what might work for him. Apply for ehcna and perhaps get some independent advice from Ipsea. You shouldn't however minimise what has happened at either school. Undoubtedly there is more to this than what you have said here! Saying he was late for a few lessons, watched a fight and stormed out of class when was being teased. This is unlikely to be the whole story. Students do not get to the point of exclusion and managed moves unless there have been a very significant number of suspensions or a very serious one off incident. The bar is very high for permanent exclusion.
