We just finished Lupin and we all loved it. Watched in French with subtitles. Really fantastic for DD (Y10 French) but DS also started using some phrases! Looking for more of the same - in French and Spanish (DS is Y10 Spanish).

Any recommendations, please? It's so great to watch in the original language but with English subtitles.

What about "A private affair" (age 15 recommendation but I think probably suitable also for younger DC, in Spanish, with the ever-wonderful Jean Reno)?

MerryMarigold · 07/01/2024 15:58

Thanks. That sounds great. They watch 15s (They are 15).

@MerryMarigold if you have a streaming service such as Netflix, you can watch anything in another language, with or without subtitles. My DH is learning Spanish and I often find him watching familiar movies in Spanish. He also has Spanish set as the main language on his phone and satnav.

I've just watched Society of the Snow in Spanish with subtitles on Netflix about the Andes plane crash in the seventies. great film but slightly gruesome themes so check before you let your kids watch if they are sensitive.

Yes, that is good too but I don't think the subtitles are then in English. It's great to watch these things as a family and DH has no MFL, DS she's Spanish and DD does French so the English subtitles are important if we're all watching. I will suggest to her to watch some familiar things on her own though.

Yes, you can have english subtitles.

(We often put English subtitles on English films too, if they're a bit mumbly. You can have many combinations of languages.)

Have a look at ‘The Paris Agency’ which is a reality show following a family real estate business. Second money Heist, but also the new spin off, Berlin which has both French and Spanish.

La Casa de Papel is excellent but might be a bit intense for a 15 year old. If you view it, I would recommend it in Spanish (very nice mix of accents and some

Vis-a-vis is 18+. Both Elite and Las chicas del cable are more like a 15. Elite definitely teen territory given the setting in a School.

Another one is High Seas (mystery in cruise, set in the post-war period).

These are amazing. Thanks so much. Should take us to Y11!

Yes, we always have the English subs on (hearing not what it used to be). Didn't realise you could choose English subs if it's a dubbed programme. That's great.
