My DD received an offer from UCS to join the 6th Form. She is already at an academic Independent, so not just about grades. Would love to get some feedback from anyone with experience, both positive and negative.
Thank you

Congratulations to her! My DD also received an offer on Friday and as it was her strong favourite we have already accepted it. We know several families with DC there - some girls currently in Y12 and Y13 were previously at DD’s school and are loving it at UCS We like Mr Beard very much and enjoyed meeting the subject heads on the open evening. It’s also close to home (easy walking distance) which is a big plus for us. Hope you get the info you need to make the right decision for your DD, whatever that may be.

Congratulations to your DD, she must be very excited. Thanks so much for your reply, it is really helpful. I think our DD will take the offer. Can I ask what school yours is coming from?

@lorrainelb It’s a bit outing, but I will PM you if that’s OK?

Yes please, if you don't mind

Hi! Congratulations to your DD (although late of me to say) but I was wondering if it would be okay if you could provide some insight on the selection process. My DD is interested in applying and the entrance exam is what we’re most curious about, of course we understand that you can’t revise for it but we’re just wondering what it’s like and it’s structure just so if my DD does choose to apply, she doesn’t walk in blind. More specifically the maths portion of the exam if possible?

@Harriet09101 the exam is in two parts:

  1. Multiple choice questions testing reasoning ability. This is based on the Oxford TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) for which you can find sample and past papers on the University of Oxford website.
  2. A short essay on a topical question. I think the time allowed is 20 mins and there is just one question (no choice). Although UCS don’t publish past questions, other schools (e.g. Emanuel and I think Kings Canterbury) do provide sample questions of this type.

So there isn’t a maths section specifically, but the MCQ will certainly include questions testing quantitative reasoning.

Thank you so much for your help! We were feeling lost before but this has helped us a lot. Good luck to your DD starting this September!
