Hi there, hoping to get some insight and perspectives on how tormead senior school deal with neurodiverse girls? My daughter is autistic, very clever, loves learning, musical and sporty and I want to make sure her senior school of Choice will be understanding of neurodiversity. We have also looked at Priorsfield and Manor House. I suppose my main concerns hitting teenage years would be that sensory sensitivities (noise/busyness) may become more prominent so we want a school which is flexible, understanding but also easy to approach/contact/discuss things pre emptively.

Hi There! If your daughter is "very clever, loves learning, musical and sporty" she would fit in perfectly at Tormead. It's a school with a good community spirit, girls are friendly, down to earth and on the whole, kind.

Regarding your DDs particular requirements though, I would suggest calling them up and having a chat. There are girls with all sort of things going on in their lives there, and we've always found the school to be supportive and proactive with us and our issues, plus others in my DDs year. Unless someone else who has a neurodiverse DD is on MN and can help you specifically, you might not get an exact answer, but I'm sure the school can tell you what they can, can't and perhaps already do for others who are similar to your DD.

Have you visited already for an open day? It is a busy school from time to time, like all senior schools, and given that it is in Guildford, although there is a family feel, there's also no escaping the fact that it has a city-centre school edge to it, which may or may not be what you're looking for? If you wanted a quieter environment I would imagine priors field might be a good fit (have you called them?) As it's a much smaller school, not in the city centre.

Ps. What year group is this for, I thought Manor House were becoming Prep only now, so you daughter would be at StTheresas if she went there for year 7?

Good luck! X

I would not look at Manor House. Far too small at senior school and not flexible or understanding. Girls there who had autism had particularly bad experiences in my daughter’s year. I think current plan is to give girls choice where to go in year seven, Manor House or St Ts, but I am sure the overall plan is for Manor House to become a prep school only as it is not really fit to be a senior school.
