Economics teacher experiences

Hi All, DH looking for a career "realignment". He currently tutors economics all the way to university level but looking to switch to becoming an ALevel Economics teacher ( GCSE as well if offered by the school).

How viable is this?

He would look to the private sector, and not want to teach any other subject. ( No math or business studies etc). What are your experiences? How many hours of teaching do you do? Do schools prefer part -time teachers for A levels, as I am assuming there's not enough work for full time?

We have spoken to some schools around is but looking for a wider prospective.

We are aware of the stresses (and highlights) of the teaching proffesion and the difference between private and public sector. This is a career choice move, not a need, so we are willing to wait and look for the right sort of opportunity/ the right fit. So please any Economic teachers perspectives would be useful.

TIA

Economics is back in fashion and growing as a gcse and A level subject at both private and state schools.

I teach A level economics / AQA in an outstanding sixth form college. Great team, plenty of autonomy and mainly motivated students. Fascinating topic but rather depressing at the same time due to our horrendous government.

Stress is the work load. Class sizes increasing due to lack of money / budgets have not increased with inflation.

Hi I teach economics and it's definitely a shortage subject so it's definitely a viable career option. Given its popularity at private schools you could easily get a full time job teaching economics though you may have to teach GCSE economics too. Private schools don't require teaching qualifications so he could move relatively easily. I would contact the some private schools in the area and ask about teaching economics.
