Tutorial College London recommendations

My Daughter just stated A levels; however she recently decided what degree she wants to study and she needs to study a different subject. Too late to change/add it at current school.

Can anyone recommend tutorial Colleges in London? Can she do the additional subject during year 12 to avoid the pressure of the other exams in year 13?

It may be worth explaining to her school that this is something you're considering. It may make more sense for you to look for a private tutor who can catch her up on the first term's work by January, and ask the school whether if you did that, she could then join the A-level class at school (perhaps conditional on a decent score on any assessments). The school is bound not to be keen on helping her catch up the first two months, but might be happier if they know someone else is seeing to that.

This doesn't work if she'd have a timetable clash, though, and may not work if it's something like chemistry where she might have missed too many practical assessments.

I don't think trying to do the extra subject in year 12 makes much sense - that would mean covering a five term syllabus in two terms.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

The school has said is not possible to change or add a subject; the tutoring is an idea muy not sure this is the issue

Can’t believe how expensive they are; I am going to try to push the school. 8k for one subject for one year.

What a expensive mistake choosing wrong A levels. I feel a bit guilty as she asked me whether to add a 4 subject or a EPQ? I didn’t know what to advise so she went for EPQ.

Can she self teach physics? she got a 9 in GCSEs. She wasn’t keen on it but now thinks she wants to do Engineering

Science subjects are more expensive because of the practical work involved.
Have you thought about contacting an exam centre such as https://www.tutorsandexams.uk/ and working backwards i.e. work out which exam boards they offer for Physics and if they can either recommend a private tutor or study online.

Thank you. Didn’t know this was an option. Will research it

Hi, I don't know if you would think to consider a registering at a Virtual Learning Academy as an additive to your daughters education to fill in that extra subject, but that's definitely a possibility. My daughter actually did homeschooling for all of her Year 12 as we were travelling due to my work, and EAA Virtual Learning Academy was by far the best Virtual School Programme we could have chosen, they really equipped her with all the knowledge she needed to acquire, because as soon as she returned to in person school for Year 13 in preparation for her exams she was performing very well, just something to consider, I hope this helps, Let me know if you'd like me to share contact details and good luck!

I went to MPW. The tutors are excellent but most of the students when I was there were drop outs / retakers, including me. Tamara Beckwith was in at least one of my A level groups. That's the measure of it.
