Thoughts on Windermere School?

Hi everyone. I'm a student applying to boarding schools, and I would simply like your opinion on Windermere school, whether it be as a parent or past pupil, or if you live in the surrounding areas. I'm aware it's mumsnet, so it's really not for my demographic, but I'd like some opinion on it anyways! Namely, the overall environment of the school and the quality of the education. I'd consider myself fairly smart (I was also considering applying to top schools such as Westminster and am predicted 8/9s) but I'm also really big on getting a well rounded education and overall just having a nice few years before uni! I'm not big on sports at the moment but I'm extremely interested in joining activities such as sailing and other water sports/rock climbing/hiking.

I'm genuinely extremely interested in Windermere because of how it seems to be very well rounded, but there's really not a lot information about the school online.

Also as a note, I'm not looking for any other school recommendations, just asking about opinions on Windermere. Thank you in advance!

Hi, did you ever get a response to this or decide what to do? Just stumbled across your question. I’ve had three academic kids through the school & would say the majority of teaching is very good - the science department is truly excellent. & the adventure team are fantastic. There’s lots of outdoor activities to take part in either via the main curriculum or afterschool activities - sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, hill running, climbing etc. They run a fantastic DofE programme bronze through gold. I’d thoroughly recommend taking a look around. The year groups are small which has its pros & cons - greater input from teachers & ability to be a part of anything you choose (eg plays/ productions) vs slightly smaller friendship pool - but hopefully kids with similar interests. It’s very welcoming.

I know this post is slightly old, but I went there for 11-12 years and left after year 11 in 2019. The school is exceptional and was always friendly towards me. I made lots of good friends there. And other people in my family also went there. Personally I was never into the adventure side, but it has amazing sailing and adventure programs for Years 7-9, GCSE and IB. Also as the other commenter said, the year groups are smaller than other schools which can help if you’re more into smaller class sizes. I never boarded at the school, but I had friends there that did. And they said it was a good experience.
