As the title says, I've had a look on the website and to my understanding you can only apply for assisted place for applicants entering in year 7.
Wondering if independent schools have some sort of leeway for in year admissions?

There's a possibility of moving from the north to midlands (Birmingham more so). Dc would be starting year 9; currently at state grammar but I don't think many places come up for state grammar schools (for in year admission).

I would suggest you call KES - I'm sure they will be happy to answer your question.

You're right that in-year state grammar places only come up occasionally, but as soon as you get a moving date it'd be worth contacting the Birmingham grammar you're interested in. You might be lucky with your timings and a place comes up and your DS passes the in-year test.

I've name changed as this is potentially

Which year is it? KES is usually over subscribed with a waiting list and a fairly tough entry exam. I know that year 7 entry this year didn't even go to waiting list. as they were so over subscribed (poor DS got stuck in this and still on waiting list Sad) However, occasional places do come up in year so it's definitely worth asking. I know quite a few boys there and it is a superb school. Call the admissions office and ask about in year assisted places - they are usually really helpful.

As for grammars I know that in year places have a huge number of applicants and again there is an entrance test. If I were you I'd contact Birmingham grammar admissions office and ask. DD is at Camp Hill Girls and told me that there were about 80 applicants who turned up for a test for 2 places that had come open so sadly the competition remains tough later on.

Actually you don't say whether you're looking for a boy or a girl but I'd add I know a number of girls at the KEHS and they love it - again a really good school.

If you're looking for a girl EHS sometimes have bursaries and if you're prepared to go further out it's worth looking at Solihull. Priory will probably offer a place but I'd be very wary of them - same with St. Georges

Good luck

Thank you @soandsosmummy , that's very helpful. It would be for year 9, and boy.

I knew the state grammars have fierce competition but for some reason didn't think it was as intense for the independent school (however it does make sense with the school doing so well).

Thank you for the replies, definitely will contacting school/s.

I think KES has approximately 8 applicants a place
