AE tuition for 11+

Has anyone got any experience with AE tuition centres? I am looking into enrolling my year 4 daughter with them for their 7 month course. From what I have read the course is quite intensive as they are covering the same syllabus as the 12 month course that they run.

Has anyone used them before and if you have how did your child get on? Did they secure a grammar school place? How well did they cope with the homework? Did you do any additional work with them outside of AE?

We are aiming at HBS, Latymer and WCGS if that helps. I am pretty new to the whole 11+ world so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hah, just realised I went off track quite a bit. :p

We don't have experience with AE. But we did Eleven Plus Exams online tuition (recorded video classes, lots of workbooks and weekly online homework - automated marking and statistics on subjects - were provided). Very intense.

My DC was a bit on the slow side. So even it was supposed to be a few hours homework a week, they ended up spending double the time. By Y5, it's just unsustainable, as we couldn't have any spare time to go through what he's weak at. Plus their online works are entirely multiple choices based format, differed from our goal. We dropped the online classes and went for exam papers based local tutor and my own support on his weaknesses all the way through.

He sat two exams (both superslectives) and got offers from both.

@Mumofgirls12341 where did u end up going then? What do u suggest now looking back?

AE is known to give a lot of homework. They do get good results but a lot because how hard they make the kids work. For most kids,it means hours of homework everyday and then 3 hours coaching over the weekend. So depends on if you are happy to do that or not.

@Dadof2sd how is it 3 hrs of coaching when the sessions are 1 hr 45 mins as published on their website?

Dadof2sd · 10/05/2024 08:51

If you look at their year 5 one year course, it’s 2.5 hrs. I apologise, my friend must have meant 3 hrs as in they go a bit early etc.

For anyone who home coached their kids, can you provide a list of materials (books) used? I'm just struggling with the vastness of materials available! It would certainly help if there was a tried and tested list ( I understand each child is different and may have varies needs :)). Ta x

It all depends on what schools you are targeting. Which schools are you looking at?

Thank you for responding.
Currently thinking about Bexley Grammar/Dartford Grammar and maybe some independents in the vicinity. She's in year 4 right now.. So prepping and planning ahead.

@GoldieCJ Friend’s daughter passed Bexley, Kent and Newstead Wood purely using CGP books and later some test papers from Exam Papers Plus
