Sports Scholarship

My son is an excellent sportsman, plays Rugby at Academy level and we’ve recently been invited to a sports scholarship trial at a private school for 6th Form (he’s currently in Y11). I didn’t approach the school, they approached us after seeing him play at a Rugby tournament hosted at their school.

My issue is that I’m a single parent, working full time, my income that is just about keeping us afloat. I go without myself to ensure my sons have opportunities to attend their various sports. Finding any additional funds for school fees is not going to happen. Would l be foolish to take him along to the trials without first informing the school about this?

l know absolutely nothing about how the system works so l wouldn’t want to waste anyone’s time.

Presumably they recognise that he might need a bursary too but it might be worth checking beforehand. A pupil in dc year had a fully funded place due to his rugby talents,

Go, if you like it apply for a bursary.

Firstly look up online their bursary policy and perhaps give the bursar a call, it’s always worth a go and you might be surprised what they offer.

Some schools have a larger bursary pot than others, and some prioritise on locality, ability etc.

Definitely speak to them, a private school near us poached one of “our” kids on a rugby scholarship, he got the full package: free transport, free breakfast and lunch, free kit and no fees to pay.
Alternatively they may just be suggesting 30% off the fees.
