Stealing in secondary school classrooms. CCTV?

Does anyone know if secondary schools have CCTV in the classrooms? My son keeps getting stuff stolen from him, calculators, stationery, etc and today his watch as he took it off to wash his hands after a science experiment. It is always the same boys but school say there is no evidence so nothing can be done. I am spending a fortune on replacing stuff.

Only your school can answer that. We don't.

Very unlikely in classrooms op. And dubious quality in communal areas.

Why is your dcs stuff going missing?

wendall456 · 02/10/2023 17:53

There are a couple of boys that are really nasty to him and. in the classes these boys are in.,is when his stuff go missing. Never goes missing from any other classes. Usually swiped from the desk but last week from his bag and now from directly under his eyes - boys deny it all - school believe it probably is them but if they deny it they say there is nothing they can do.

So your child is being bullied?

TeenDivided · 02/10/2023 18:00

Of course there is something they can do.
If nothing else they can rearrange the seating plans.

Most schools do not have CCTV in classrooms. They can't usually afford it in corridors or playgrounds even.

That's definitely bullying op. You need to take this further.

And do a bag search

We have CCTV in classrooms in my school however are unable to show to parents because of GDPR. It can however be used as 'evidence' for punishments such as inclusion or exclusion

You should absolutely contact your head of year. Teachers need to be aware of any bullying so they can watch out for it and hopefully prevent it. If your son is willing and won't be embarrassed teachers could always seat him at the front of the class too? Or at least away from the boys taking his things. You can request that this is a request given privately by the Head of year to his teachers too so he doesn't need to ask himself.

Your child is being bullied and you need to do something about it. Stealing personal items is unacceptable and there needs to be repercussions.

Have you contacted the school about this? Are they aware of what’s going on between your son and these boys?
