Is this usual for homework?

DD1 has just started Y7.

Homework so far in maths and science seems to be new learning rather than consolidation/retrieval of prior learning.

Wondering if this is standard with secondary homework.

DD (ASD) is struggling with reading off a screen and is feeling pretty demoralised. I’ve suggest note taking / regular breaks etc to help lessen her mental load.

On my school we spend the start of year 7 effectively consolidating year 6 topics and stretching students with more problem solving (maths).

Homework would be on year 6 topics but would start easy and get harder so not all students would complete it.

Is it online homework (dr firist or similar m) or paper?

All online, I’ve looked for an option to print out the reading but there’s nothing obvious. Will contact the school and see if there’s a way to print.

There is a thing called 'flip learning'.
My understanding is the student reads up on something before it is taught. This then makes them a bit more aware / receptive to the teaching, because it is already a bit familiar to them. Could it be this?

If she has ASD you are doing well to get her to do h/w at home at all.

Might be worth a word with the SENCO or relevant teacher just so you understand what is expected / how best to help / advise.
