Maths and Sciences at St Marylebone for girls: what it's like?

I'd like to know what the teaching of Sciences and Maths is like at St M. Are the girls encouraged and stretched in these subjects or is the focus mainly on performance arts? Also, does religion play a big part or not? didn't look like to me fortunately.

Hi,
Although the school has a focus on performing arts, maths and science definitely feel valued and don't play "second fiddle" to the performing arts. They have some extra curricular clubs in this area (as I'm sure a lot of secondary schools do), two different maths clubs for KS3 and at least one science, plus a couple of techy type ones I think. They also have some maths scholars, which they select at beginning of Y8 I think. The classes at KS2 are mixed ability, which I know some people have an aversion to and they have just started doing sparx maths for homework which again, some people aren't keen on (but my DD likes).

In terms of religion, you are correct that it is quite light. My DD certainly gets less religious / communal worship type stuff than I did at any of my non-faith schools! Though I admit times have changed and she gets more than she did at her non-faith primary (which was zero). They have assembly in church on Monday morning (I think every other week) and I guess that lasts less than half an hour in order to start lessons. They do celebrate harvest festival and they have a Christmas Carol service and a longer assembly at Easter. There is a chapel choir which I think is audition only - there are other non churchy choirs in the school that you can join. They also offer baptism and confirmation classes for anyone who wants to do them, I think a very small number of girls decide to do this each year. Their RE lessons are called REP (religion, ethics and philosophy) and it is compulsory to take RE for GSCE, which is a common requirement at faith schools (and also some non-faith schools). I can see that some people make take issue with this, though it doesn't bother me.

Thank you Banana and Aunt. We aren’t church goers and are waiting to hear on a performing arts place. Hoping.
