Eng Lit/Lang remark? So close!

My DC (dyslexic) got 4s for both Eng Lit and also for Eng Lang GCSEs. Total score was 3 marks off a 5 for Eng Lit and funnily enough 3 marks off a 5 for Eng Lang too! So close! The teachers have reviewed all the scripts and have said they believe they were fairly marked. Should I go for a remark anyway? Will be expensive as would total 4 papers I believe. What would you do?

What grade do they need to move onto the next stage of their education?

You’re a bit late to be considering this. Deadline is 28th Sept so realistically you’d only have time to review one paper for each subject (the risk with doing both is that one goes up and one down, thus cancelling each other out).

How close to the 3 border is it? Marks can go down and you might be risking a pass.

I would say it is too far away 1 or 2 marks maybe. They are unlikely to find 3.

As one of those teachers that are involved in looking at papers to decide if they should be remarked, I can tell you that I wish I didn't have to. It takes ages and in the end at least 3 people will have looked at it before a decision is made. (Well certainly in our department)
I would trust those teachers who gave up their time to look at those papers again and not pay out that money

My daughter was 5 marks from the next grade in English Lang and I requested a remark as the grade was unexpected. Teacher didn’t think we’d get that many marks but told us which paper to try. Remark came back with 6 further marks and the higher grade. I did it as my daughter was disappointed with her grade and this way I thought at least she’d know it was correct. I never expected them to find so many marks.

Reviews are not looking for marks. It's a lot of money to spend when the teachers think it's not likely to move.

My son's PE teachers did not think my son's PE grade would go up because he did very well in his paper ie 54/60 - they got the papers back and there had been a 1 mark counting error so he was actually 55/60...and then they had it reassessed and he went up to 57/60. He had been 2 marks off a 9 so went up.
Don't worry about her lit score but do both english papers as its english most people use post GCSE. At 3 marks off its unlikely she will go down to a grade 3. I say this as she is disappointed if she wasn't I would leave it.

The teachers believe they are realistic marks for the papers. Have got the grade needed for the next stage?
I would trust the teachers.
