Anyone else's DC failed all their GCSE's?

My DC has very bad dyslexia and has got 1's and 2's in everything. He is gutted. I am trying to support him the best I can and reassure him this is not going to define his life. We have a local college where he can resit Maths and English along side his chosen course (just at a lower level) and then if he passes these next year he will be able to progress onto his chosen course as planned.

Anyone else in the same boat.

He wants to get a part time job and is worried no one will take him as he has no GCSE's even though his intention is to get these.

Oh the poor love. I really feel for him but at least you have a plan. Were the results a shock or expected?
Does he get the extra time and can he request to use a scribe or laptop due to his dyslexia? If not, make sure the college he goes to gets this set up for his next exams. I'd also keep a really close eye on his progress. A Level 2 qualification in Maths and English is important these days. If he does poorly next time round perhaps he could do Functional Maths Level 2 instead ( or in tandem this year with the GCSE resit). Would a tutor help if you could afford it, or doing a lot of past papers and going through the "model" answers and "real completed papers" that the exam board has on their website. My son managed to scrape a 4 in English by me doing this with him several years ago, so he understood exactly what was required to get marks. The exam board website usually has examples of papers completed by students at various levels with the grading and marks indicated and a detailed mark scheme - you can see why someone got a high grade compared to the one with the lower grade.

hello,
My ds1 got 3s but he needed 4s to pass.

He is gutted he didnt even get at least one 4. Ive found out he was 10 marks away from a 4 in maths.

He is doing level 2 college course with the added Maths and English.
He feels hes got another year of doing Maths and English again a bit of a step back.

Im telling mine that everyone is on different paths and instead of the direct path hes taking the scenic route.

Its so hard when they are that age.

You should speak to your local colleges to see what pathways they offer. He could then do retakes of maths and English and combine that with a part time job or volunteering. Wishing him all the best!
