We've been using this too, save your exams is really helpful for past papers. Really detailed revision note pages too but we found it was useful to read these on a screen and summarise key bits on paper as it helped DD to remember as she wrote it down? It kind of stuck a bit better. Or we hope it does!

We just bought her a revision workbook to help simplify the amount she's been asked to do and that has helped with her anxiety I think. She heard about it from a friend, called Revise and Recharge. Looks useful to plan the months ahead if anyone else is in the middle of their mocks.

We need to find somethink for the summer too. A bit of a treat to take the focus off the results day. Congrats to those with results yesterday. We've got it all to come yet! 😥

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 12/01/2024 16:05

Thos are excellent results @Techno56 now he can relax and enjoy his weekend (and so can you!) 😀

dinomirror · 12/01/2024 16:42

Is 75 percent for a 6 in RE realistic? Seems really high to me but thats the grade boundary dds school has made?

RachelGreensHair · 12/01/2024 16:53

Is it AQA RE? Cos tbf that is v easy.

Marisquita · 12/01/2024 21:56

Well we’ve survived 2 weeks of mocks! Results for DD seem pretty good so far, though we will be rethinking revision resources & techniques for Geography and Physics. Anyway it will be a rare (and welcome) weekend of no studies before the next phase.

Waspie · 13/01/2024 17:55

Well done to your son @Techno56

And congrats on surviving the mocks @Marisquita Hopefully positive results for your daughter and a well deserved weekend off Smile

Well done to all your DC working so hard.
My DS has been trying so hard. He’s had a tough week too. Tuesday he carried my grandmothers coffin and today he mastered contact lenses. My heart is so full of pride for him right now. ❤️

Hope you have a fun weekend. DS is starting round two of mocks in about 10 days he was off ill today. The statistics is new first time the school have offered it.

The only saving grace of having mocks after Christmas is that they only take one set! Two sets seem too much to me.

Ours only do one set of mocks, but they’re not until the week after half term

Waspie · 19/01/2024 13:17

Ours do two lots of mocks - November and the after February half term. DS has started revision and is going to the after school sessions that the subject teachers are running. He has his first sixth form college interview tomorrow and another in two weeks time.

He's starting to wobble about his third subject. He's chosen biology where the sixth form doesn't offer his preferred option, but is really enjoying physics and wants to change. From what I've read he can request this but only after the GCSE results during the schools and colleges "clearing" period.

Maxus · 19/01/2024 13:59

My son is also doing two sets of mocks. The one they did in November shows exactly what they need to work on and is having after school sessions in various subjects. He is getting 7,8 and 9s it fantastic his school is offering these sessions for them for high acheving pupils to stretch themselves, lots of schools don't do this. He will see how far he has come after the February ones and what needs working on next. I think it's much more beneficial to have two

I’m firmly in the camp of one set, it’s stressful enough for them with that. They have regular topic tests on top of these so it’s not like there’s no further assessment but each to their own, different things suit different people.

Marisquita · 19/01/2024 18:02

One set of mocks was quite enough for us!

@Waspie I’m surprised that a proposed A level subject change is so restricted where you are. Can he not just contact the places he’s applied to saying he’s had second thoughts?

Some great results there, though a shame it's only the high achievers who get extra help. I am grateful my DS has got a 2nd round for English as he is struggling. His school have revision classes everyday day after school thankfully it is open to everyone.

TeenDivided · 19/01/2024 20:33

@Tebheag I suspect Maxus doesn't mean only high achievers, just sessions aimed at top grade pupils as well, I would assume, as other sessions aimed at lower grade levels.

It's for all pupils not just high achievers. I'm just greatfull that high achievers also this support as many schools don't

@Waspie that's difficult to be restricted. I'm hoping DD's school will be flexible. She's now also thinking about biology A level but we're a bit scarred by her older sib's biology A level as they found it very challenging and we were all left a bit traumatized by it and much poorer due to the tutoring required.
