Sensational headlines

I know papers, news sites etc need to grab attention but I do wish they'd stop with the " no A*s this year" " you're buggered this year" etc

These young people have been through so much and the next week (or 2 for the gcses) will be stressful enough without scaremongering headlines.

As a teacher, I agree, and I think the papers are being ridiculous. Firstly, it isn't news as we have been aware of this for months, and secondly, it shouldn't be presented as a bad thing for students!

BTW, if any papers are saying no A this year, they are wrong. The whole point is that the proportion of the cohort getting each grade will match 2019, so if there were 10% A in 2019, that's what there will be this year. The idea is actually to try and ensure some fairness and ensure that grades don't dip too much!

I guess they can't go for their normal headlines about grade inflation, so they've had to come up with a new slant.

Hopefully most Y11s aren't paying too much attention to newspaper headlines!

Mumsnet formatting ARGH

BTW, if any papers are saying no A star this year, they are wrong. The whole point is that the proportion of the cohort getting each grade will match 2019, so if there were 10% A star in 2019, that's what there will be this year. The idea is actually to try and ensure some fairness and ensure that grades don't dip too much!

Hope that makes a bit more sense.
