I know this may be different in each school but you are all a fountain of knowledge on MN
So can you tell me what History topics your DC studied in Y8- London if that helps.

I like history myself and last year my child studied the Renaissance and we went to a gallery so wondering if there's a common topic happening in Y8'and we can go and do things this summer to spark an interest.

Thank you.

Every school will be different, especially as academies don’t have to follow the national curriculum, but if you look on their website the curriculum map may be on there and that will tell you what they do in year 8.

Curriculum should be on the school website

MossCow · 08/08/2023 17:18

Yes, it should definitely be on the school website.

My dd and nephew are the same age and did different History GCSE boards but still did a lot of the same subjects.

Oh I see. Thank you. I'll have a look now.

At my DDs school in y7-y9 they galloped through British history in chronological order from 1066~1960s, throwing in some things like Civil Rights in America for good measure.

I had a look on the website and after different routes the page wasn't found. So back to original question, if you can help.

Do you know any parents who have had y8 children at the school (e.g. friends from primary with older siblings)? That would probably be your best bet.

Take a look at the National Curriculum link.

In our school they cover British History 1000 AD to 1945 in KS3 (carefully skipping over colonialism and the Empire). Y8 was the Tutors to the Industrial revolution.
