Does such a thing exist? Just curious because every one I have looked at so far seems to have more boys.

Th schools try to balance it but it's because there are far more single sex schools for girls in London than boys only. Girls are thought to perform better in an all girls environment and boys schools like girls in the 6th form to balance out the academics (- ie not all maths and stem). Plus they are able to attract high performing girls from the single sex girls schools for the 6th form to keep the A level grades achieved high. There are also hardly any all boys boarding schools left in the uk - Eton, Harrow, Radley being the main 3.

I think Emanuel, Kingston Grammar' Kew House and Latymer Upper are definitely 50/50.

11+ girls boarding options and boys and coed boarding options are at 13+ Year 9. Therefore the imbalance should be checked at Year 9 because some boys goes to the boarding options. @swifterama, I agree those schools seems 50/50 also Highgate.

There are none in London

Forest ? Not sure if it's 50 50 though but they do apparently try to keep a balance

Yes there are- all the ones I mentioned above.

swifterama · 06/08/2023 15:51

50/50 anyway. Maybe not more girls. Although some individual year groups may.

puffyisgood · 06/08/2023 16:02

I think I’ve seen some historic numbers whereby alleyns had slightly more girls than boys, but I don’t think by design/I doubt that this is consistently the case.

No more girls than boys I meant

St Margaret’s in Bushey perhaps as they only recently went co-ed

City of London Freemen's does - but only just and I wouldn't consider it a true London day.

Marisquita · 14/08/2023 20:12

Yes, St Margarets’ move to co-ed has been phased in since 2020, so the ratio of girls:boys varies across the year groups. In the Junior School there is full integration with some very junior years possibly having a narrow majority of boys now.

In the Senior School is is still a work in progress, with enthusiastic uptake by boys but still overall a majority of girls at KS4 (e.g. incoming Y11 were admitted on an all-girls basis, whereas incoming Y10 received an influx of Y9 joiners, mostly boys, in September 2022).

My post was intended to build on what @London1305f said.

In SE London the co ed schools are former boys schools and all the girls schools have stayed single sex as are GDST - hence the coeds tend to be a bit boy heavy.

Caterham is close to 50/50

I thought Highgate was 50/50? They take an equal number of girls and boys in Year 7
