Bullying whatsapp msg - WWYD

My 14 year old DD has had an awful time in Year 9 and been bullied relentlessly. We have reported to the school but things have not improved, and in fact have intensified as she has been called a snitch and all the rest of it. Now in her summer holidays, she has just received this message from someone in her year .... "[DDs name] the f*y sniffer likes to s**g little kids called [boys name] and [random phrase]"

I really don't know what to do. We have reported and blocked on Whatsapp and I'm not sure if there is anything further I can do. If there is, I would really like to know. Thank you.

You can report it to the police online.
I had similar with my DD and the police took it seriously (despite me thinking I'd over reacted after the event)
They contacts the parents of the child & explain consequences of any further complaints
Bullying is my pet hate and not ok in any circumstances

@mug2018 thank you so much! How do you report it? Through 101? There has only been the one message - there may have been others but she has blocked all contacts.

Yes .. 101 or you can go online and register a complaint

Have you phoned the number back - I also did that and asked to speak to the parent but that depends on what you know about the child and whether their parents are likely to have a conversation with you

Alternatively, message the person and tell them that your next move is to contact the police so ANY form of contact to your DD will be roported

If your DD has any social media, Snapchat in particular, I would also check those messages

holidaysoonplease · 30/07/2023 19:05

Thank you! DD doesn't have Snapchat or any other social media for precisely this reason.

I'm not really comfortable calling the number or engaging with this girl. We moved into the area about 12 months ago so I have no idea who she is, and unfortunately have no other mum friends at the school to ask. It sucks.

Report to the police.

Ultimately if it gets worse can she change schools? Even private if you can afford it.

holidaysoonplease · 30/07/2023 19:12

@GonnaGetGoingReturns I've had an application in with the county council all year to change schools but all the good schools are full with long waiting lists.

Children talking this way about other children is taken very seriously by police and schools (or should be) when implying abuse. Screen shot and make sure to report to police and to school. Ring number under 141 n ask for parents and read out what their cherub is texting others.

Implying sexual misconduct is a form of paedophilia even when it's minors discussing minors. This kid will be heavily reprimanded.

Basically these very serious accusations need dealing with by professionals. This needs nipping in bud before it escalates. Hd definitely be ringing the police tomorrow or tonight on non emergency number. As soon as school opens I'd be taking it to the headmaster.

Kids need teaching this is NOT ok

I really hope the changing schools works for a good school but pity about long waiting lists. Would your DD travel a bit further to a good school?

Put a complaint in to the Governors if you feel the school haven't dealt with it. Let the Head know every single time something happens. I'm sorry for your DD.

Crafthead · 02/11/2023 11:48

It's harassment so it's a police issue. They can trace the message origins.

"good" is the judgement of Ofsted but often the less "good" schools have better pastoral support in place and may be "good" for kids who need that or whose mental health is being affected by issues like bullying. It's not all about exam results. Don't write off the less "good" schools, they are probably dealing with different priorities to the ones in better areas, which doesn't always mean the kids are more unkind. In fact it can mean the exact opposite.
