The Cedars School - academic reputation

I was wondering if anyone had information about the academic success (basically university destinations) of this school. I can't seem to find it on their website.

Is anyone able to give an insight into this school's academics?

Many thanks for any information!

Do you mean The Cedars boys' school in South-East London?

onewhoassociates · 27/07/2023 14:34

Yes, this is the school, the Catholic one - I cannot seem to find any information regarding this.

Many thanks for this - I am looking for the leaving destinations in reality.

It's difficult to gauge the academic level of this school IMO.

Indeed……

Be very careful, this school is founded by Opus Dei, very different from conventional catholic schools. If you are not an Opus Dei supporter yourself you won’t matter much in there. I suggest you research the ‘sect’ as much as you can if you are considering this school for your son/sons.
Well known fact they fiddled with their results when they could during lockdown, as did their sister school. Farcical!

Actually the school was set up a group of parents (who had already founded a primary school in Purley). Posters should really get their facts right before slinging accusations around.

I am not a member of Opus Dei (though I am a practising Catholic), and I have always had a very free, frank and productive relationship with the schools' staff (I have sons and daughters at both Cedars and Laurels). My views and opinions are valued and listened to.

(FYI Opus Dei isn't a 'sect' either, it is part of the Catholic Church. The school's religious life - for those who wish to participate in it - is under the care of a priest of Opus Dei, and there are probably a sizeable minority of families who are also members, but by no means all. The guiding principle of Opus Dei is "...to serve God not just through personal spiritual acts, but also through how they conduct themselves in their professional and family lives." Shocker.)

And regarding exam results during Covid - they were in line with the contemporaneous national trends.

OP, they have an Open Morning coming up next weekend; I always suggest that prospective parents go and see for themselves, get a feel for the place, its staff, its principles, ask all the questions you might have, and then make an informed decision.

Quite right, posters should get their facts right, even better learn and read other posts before they criticise them. But of course this is what the Opus Dei brigade does every time someone tries and expose them for what they are: send out one of their dogs to ‘attack and destroy’.
I didn’t mention ‘members’ (interestingly enough, you did…..) I mentioned ‘supporters’. And you clearly must be if you have ‘sons and daughters both at the Cedars and Laurels’. Incidentally, how many kids do you have, as that is normally a pretty good indication of where you stand when it comes to Opus Dei.

@onewhoassociates , don’t be fooled by the ‘staged’ scenario of the open days and how they’d try and lull you (we nearly fell for it!), do some independent research about Opus Dei (tons available, even online) and their schools around the world. See how closely they’ve mingled with Fascists and Nazis from day one (again, all data available for those who endeavour to look it up) and then decide for yourself whether they can provide a healthy and impartial educational environment.

Wait for the reply from the ‘brigade’ mentioning how they are victims of a witch-hunt, at best, when it comes to published online information. Or possibly using the DaVinci Code card……

As I said, I recommend you do your research first, then go to the open day if you still wish to do so.

@onewhoassociates sorry, I got my dates wrong: The Cedars' Open Morning is tomorrow, not next weekend.

I won't be responding to the previous poster's dog-whistles about Nazis & Fascism.

As I've already said, I'd suggest to anyone interested in the school to go and see it for yourself (either at an Open Day or just ask to visit privately), ask all your questions, and go with your gut instincts as to whether it's the right fit for your son.

I wonder why the school is not registered with the Catholic Bishops' Conference as Roman Catholic and describes itself as having a Catholic Ethos. Not subject to diocesan religious education.
