Haileybury - recent insights

Our DS is quite academic and very sporty. We are considering one of the top boarding schools for September 2025 entry - yet we also like Haileybury's feel. Our concern is its academics as it does not seem to appear on any of the league tables. Yes, league tables are not everything, but as we will end up paying high fees at the schools offered we would like to ensure an excellent education. Any insight from current parents would be highly appreciated.

I'm not a current parent but very familiar with the school. Haileybury college is great. Good academics and takes a broad range of children both average and very academic children fly. They also send a decent number to Oxbridge every year, if you're interested in that. It's one of the top schools for the IB too average points - 38. Many indy's have pulled out of the whole league table thing but when it used to bein there and when last i checked back in 2017 (a while ago i know) Out of say 500 indy's Haileybury was around the 100 and something range. It's on par with schools like Rugby, Uppingham in terms of academics.

It's a school that gets the balance between academics, sports and pastoral care very nicely. They are known for all three.

I have a few friends whose kids went there (recently). It's a decent middle of the road/all rounder school. Nice grounds, amazing dining room and plenty of sport.

There are more academic options but it depends what type of school you're looking for.

I am a current Haileybury parent, my child is in Y7. They are ridiculously happy at the school. Obviously, it's too early to say how they'll end up academically but you're correct - it has a really lovely feel.

Thank you - yes, it feels like such a happy school. My son would be joining your son in Year 9

Can anyone tell me the best feeder schools to Haileybury if joining in Year 7

Askil · 02/07/2025 19:03

The local state schools send one or two e.g Sheredes and Broxbourne schools
Heath Mount prep
Duncombe prep
St Joseph's in the park prep

LadyBolly · 03/07/2025 07:23

Thank you !
Duncombe meant to be good.

@NewCComer Hello, we ultimately chose a different school. I am sorry I cannot be of any help. Wishing you best of luck in your choice.
