I love teachers - but I do suspect that they hate parents....

...judging my my year7 dd's half term homework list

Make a model of a cell
Design a new sort of fruit crumble
Write a poem about forgiveness
Make an A3 research board on native australian art
Learn the words to Whistle a Happy Tune

I can just see them sitting at home rubbing their hands with glee thinking "OK, it's Friday. By now all their kitchens are covered with flour, oats, stewed apricots and Slime. Their brains are completely numb because of thE saccarine mixture of Jiminy Cricket and a 12 year old girl's views on the nature of forgiveness, and their living room is a shrine to the DreamTime. AND SERVE THEM RIGHT."

of course they hate parents, parents are simply annoying

I was in an open meeting for year 2's listening to a parent ask why the children didn't get more homework because another school's kids did

I fell in love when the teacher said "Well actually we get far better SATs results than xx school and weekends are for fun"

I give out homework according to school policy. That pretty much means one homework of around 30 minutes in KS3. I don't do anything special for holidays - it's homework as usual.

I used to dislike homework, but now I rely on it for the bulk of our written work. Our lessons are very active, with very little time spent on making notes (unless I have whipped them into a frenzy and they need to calm down ).

There is some work that can only really be done for prep - ie anything that involves research on the internet or library. This is something that comes up a lot in KS4 Science. Also, our pupils all have CDs for their Science homework, so again can only really be done in their own time.

Thank you -spiral pasta -what a fab idea! I'll try and post a photo on Sunday. Let's hope it doesn't leak on the bus!

Actually, I've just thought, if she uses jelly it'll set so it won't spill.

It will.

But.

The stuff all moves round in the cell and isn't 'fixed' as it would be in the jelly

If you do, use agar, or gelatine, as it wll be clear

Can't we use green jelly? No...I suppose we can't. Boo Hiss! Oh well, I'll stand you a virtual Jenetta's ice cream in the flavour of your choice for the pasta and the wall paper paste ideas....!

Thank you very much dear. I'll have a virtual cookies and creap, on one of their lovely sugar cones and then go for a stroll down to the harbour

[sigh]

grin

Glitter is also v important to represent the chemical reactions, will civer miniseeker in glory that will!

He can also point out that in reality the membrane and cell wall let things in and out, but his model doesn't show that!

DS's teachers have been great with him missing so much school. They have been emailing us at home and are arranging him work to do at home.

The school even phoned to see if he would still be able to attend a trip (in October - I hope so!) as they wanted to offer him the place and it is oversubscribed.
