How will you be celebrating the end of GCSEs?

A bit early I know but was just wondering how to celebrate the end of GCSEs with DD when they’re over. Lots of sleep I’m sure but looking for ideas of something special to do with her. Going on holiday but not until August.

Gross - smug

lol because some of us live in the real world. And if the kids don’t get the grades they want to get into the college course they want it will feel a bit crazy to be swinging from the chandeliers and having a jolly good time while dc feel gutted and are planning to resit, mooch around need a different kind of lift.

none of us love our children any less or more than anyone else so pipe down

your sanctimonious bs doesnt wash

why sit exams at all? It’s awful experience, so why not let your kids miss their school and GCSEs altogether?

DontForgetToBreathe · 15/06/2023 07:13

@giotto keep your kids home from exams and tell them grades don’t matter lol

Supporting you kids through exams doesn’t correlate with smugly referencing what you hope will be their results on an unrelated thread.

your kids results are unrelated to the topic in this thread. Not sure why you needed to reference them

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/06/2023 07:18

@giotto agree! But for some ANY conversation will involve a mention of GCSE grades. Oh look at that beautiful kitten! Ah, yes my daughter, who got all 9's in her GCSE's, once had a kitten.

I've bought my lad the biggest box of his favourite cereal, he will love it, he's worked so hard and overcome a lot of challenges. I'm so very proud of him for making it through. Just like the previous 4 he will get to choose tea on results day!

Cornflakesaredabomb · 15/06/2023 07:22

No wonder these kids feel so much pressure if we make such a fuss about everything.
‘Cash incentives for 8s and 9s’ I think is one of the worst comments I’ve read.

TeenDivided · 15/06/2023 07:22

We had a chinese takeaway last night to celebrate DD completing her maths resit.
She has 1 more assignment left for her college course which may get completed today. Then 2 more weeks of college (she thinks its most unfair as 'everyone else' finishes this week (ie friends from school who are doing A levels)).

What she really wants is a snake. I'm holding out until October half term.

Love this! Choose what’s for tea and a massive box of cereal- perfect.

Ah ha ha !!! I literally forgot mumsnet was like this with so much smugness as hasn’t been on for ages. Need a drink myself to recoil

I will take her to get her nose pierced so it can heal up over the summer to the extent that she won't need to wear the stud all day (which she can't do in sixth form, assuming she gets in). She has wanted it for years and I've always said no so it will be a nice surprise for her.

She will want to go to a party tomorrow night. There will be an argument as we have had some bother with her MH and drinking to dangerous extents, and it will inevitably put a downer on her exams being over.

Reference is in regards to how we celebrate and how hard he worked. And yes the ones who are predicted 8,9s have literally not even seen friends and daylight and played on Ps as much as they would have liked so yes, celebration might be just for life to go back to normal. And that’s enough.

My daughter is also getting her nose pierced. She has had a septum piercing she has managed to keep hidden for whole of y11 but in sixth form they are allowed piercings so she can get a normal nose one as well. And a helix too.

LighthouseCat · 15/06/2023 17:53

I've drawn a bit of a blank on it. I will definitely pay for her celebration lunch out with friends this weekend, and maybe a 6th form clothes shopping trip (seeing as wearing your own clothes is the part of 6th form she's most looking forward to 😂)

Apparently Nando's is giving away free meals to all students on the last day of their GCSEs with ID so mine is planning on doing that and hanging out with friends after

Wish I’d known this. Took DS shopping today to celebrate end of his and made him make do with Pret!
Alton Towers on Saturday though so I think I can stay in the good mum camp

DownTheRabbitHoIe · 15/06/2023 18:32

@AgathaSpencerGregson I think the Nando's thing is for results day. They've done it previously and students need to show theirs results slip to qualify.

DS will be going out for pizza next week with some friends and then we have booked a meal out at the weekend with his big sisters.

NellyNutmeg · 16/06/2023 13:20

We're going paintballing with my son's friends. Wish me luck!!
