Alleyns vs JAGs (senior school)

I am sure this has been asked before, but I was hoping for current information. I'm just wondering what JAGs might be like for a very academic child who isn't as conscientious as they might be, but who is quite competitive (academically). I know that Alleyns is ahead of JAGs in the tables, but I'm wondering about the pastoral care in each, and also the levels of support for mental health difficulties. Also, do they both support the a rounded (more than simply academic) development/experience? I have a child who would need to be shoved towards extra curricular, so I'm hoping for a school where it is kind of expected, rather than being entirely optional (and not for the 'cool' kids). I do know that what one child loves, another might hate, but broad experiences/thoughts would be really helpful. Thanks!

Can't speak for JAGs but Alleyns won't shove children towards extra curricular - entirely possible to not do anything at all.... Not necessarily the cool kids who get involved but definitely the self starters.

Wouldn't pay too much to league tables as they're self fulfilling - better results will attract brighter kids/more ambitious parents and lead to better results - but it's all relative and pupils from either school will do well.

IME the culture is quite different at the 2 schools so you need to look round a few times and see which best suits your child?

We went through this choice last year. They are both great schools including on extra curricular but as other poster says different cultures. And one is coed and the other isn't. So agree look around them, especially if you can the smaller group / taster days etc. Also agree about the tables and being self fulfilling - Alleyn's is becoming more selective.

Also look at the other schools - St Dunstans and Sydenham GDST in areas as well as further afield like CLSG. Since you ask about it, of all the local ones we found it was Dunstans where the extra curricular was most "expected" and they structure the school day that way. It is though getting harder to get in to.

Overall don't think you can go wrong, depends entirely on what is best fit for your child.
