Please Help.
Trying for Cardinal Vaughan.Being in year as we missed applying through the offer day as we are new to this system.
Please can anyone guide if you have received offer for in year admission and what are the chances as I am being told it would be random allocation number as their numbers are full.
Will moving close to the school help if at all.
Looking for yr 7 2023 , all other parameters are in place.
Any other outstanding Catholic secondary schools that I could apply for besides in Brent and around.

They use random allocation, so moving closer to the school will make no difference at all. It is a very popular school with roughly 6 applicants for every place. If all the unsuccessful applicants are on the waiting list, I'm afraid your chances of getting a place that way are remote. That doesn't mean it won't happen - someone has to get any place that becomes available. But don't bank on it.

Finchley Catholic High has a really good reputation locally.

JayD12 · 01/05/2023 22:33

Yes I was checking it out but Ofsted shows only GOOD .Dunno if that's enough as my son is a grammar school cleared in Bucks only we didnt move.
Any info on Duoay Martyrs?

I would check the date of the last inspection. Many outstanding schools haven’t been checked for years and the good report may be more recent

SheilaFentiman · 01/05/2023 22:38

And all people want their child to
go to the best school - so outstanding schools will all be oversubscribed and have waiting lists, especially with your extra criteria of catholic

SheilaFentiman · 01/05/2023 22:41

Is your boy already in year 7? Or is that what he will be in September?

an in year application means that you are moving school in the middle of an academic year. An application for year 7 in September is just a very late application. You are past not only the allocation date but the acceptance date (when there is a fair bit of movement because private schools)

London1305f · 01/05/2023 22:50

I really wouldn’t fixate too much on ofsted reports. Some of the outstanding schools haven’t been inspected for a long time. A bright, motivated child can do well anywhere.

PanelChair · 01/05/2023 23:29

When you say you missed applying in time for national offer day, do you mean you missed applying for Cardinal Vaughan or missed applying anywhere? Have you been offered a place at any school? You need to speak to the local education authority and get onto the waiting list for any school you’d be willing to accept because (as prh47bridge says) it’s far from certain that you’ll get a place at Cardinal Vaughan.

Are we assume you are Catholic?

SheilaFentiman · 02/05/2023 07:35

Did you do an on-time out of area application for Bucks?

Ebymk · 07/05/2023 05:01

The London Oratory School is a top catholic secondary school apart from Cardinal, not far from each other.

JayD12 · 22/05/2023 11:37

Yes I am .I have submitted all proof.received the necessary acknowledgements but it'll b a wait and watch for now .hence would like to know if moving closer helps .though this is a London wide catchment needed the options to make the chances better.
Thanks in advance for any tips .

My son cleared the bucks test.but we did not move.as I have an older son who would not get the option of a grammar school.and the comprehensives there aren't outstanding.
What do u mean by on-time out of area application for Bucks?

Yes trying between both Cardinal and LO.

roses2 · 22/05/2023 12:00

Both are excellent schools and based on random allocation not catchment distance. There is a lot of movement in this area so it's possible you can still get in.

Good luck!

You said

”Dunno if that's enough as my son is a grammar school cleared in Bucks only we didnt move.”

I was asking if you applied in October for your year 6 son to join a grammar school in Bucks this coming September.

JayD12 · 20/06/2023 11:03

Yes we placed him during council application in the box consortium but we did not move.
I later got to know of Cardinal Vaughan and since we are Roman Catholic I was hoping to apply for the school for the coming September 2023.
The local council rules still indicate that if you move close a comprehensive school you should get the school that is closest to your residence so is it an UN stated clause that can still help me to get into the school ?
As we are recently entered the country it was taking a long time to understand the different allocations and the systems with the school process which is daunting and hence we have missed some essential criteria and information to help us in time.

Call the school and ask. I have a RC friend who got a place at a RC school outside soon after she rented a place 0.3 miles from the school despite 150+ boys and girls in the waiting list for her particular year.

I meant outside London

BendingSpoons · 21/06/2023 21:33

I'm not sure what you read, but the school don't have to offer a place at your nearest school if you move. They have to offer you a place somewhere, but if another school has a place, they will offer you that space.

Does your son have a school place for September? Do you already live in Brent area? You can go on waiting lists for schools you are interested in, but there isn't likely to be much movement between now and September, so your chances of getting a place at a specific oversubscribed school are small.

PanelChair · 21/06/2023 21:48

It’s far from clear what you have done so far. Are you living in the U.K. now (your posts suggest you are)? Are you on the waiting list for every school you’d be willing to accept? Their admissions criteria, which should be available online, will show whether moving closer to the school will move you up the admissions priorities and therefore up the waiting list. Have you been offered a place in any school for September?

RedFluffyPanda · 21/06/2023 22:51

Most of catholic school don't have catchment based directly based on the distance to home but it is related to the dioscese; if a child is from family practicing in the listed parishes near school and if the family lives within the listed parish boundaries. The details are in the admission documents.

Ebymk · 22/06/2023 04:33

We put Cardinal Vaughan for my son's first choice, instead his second choice thankfully chose him, on March 1st, The London Oratory School, which is equally as good, and oversusbcribed, and it's a catholic school. Cardinal advised my son's placed is in waiting list until December automatically, which we would refuse anyway if given, as we prefer The London Oratory Secondary School.
And no, we reside in East London.
Good Luck😮😮😮

JayD12 · 22/06/2023 12:27

thank you much for replying mum's.
@mumgpt .yes I guess with most other schools it's possible..CVMS? That's what I wanted to know in particular.
@BendingSpoons @PanelChair yes I understand that it works like that .hence I wanted sm feedback from anyone who got an offer after offer day particularly for cvms thru waitlist option and only after moving in closer. I live in Harrow and yes my son has a place but it's not our first choice .
@RedFluffyPanda this school does not state as such but I m wondering if it's a non specified clause and if anyone tried and got in after moving closer .
@Ebymk great going there .why may I ask is the waiting list shuffled only in December ?I have been told it's a random allocation number and I have 2 son's to be placed one for year 7 and one for year 9.i have been told to give up even waiting .
Hence thought moving closer would help?

So in the final analysis wanted some feedback from those who got an offer and their testimony on a waiting list offer.
