Does anyone have a child there? Absolutely loved it when I went to see it but any insight would be great. I’m not looking for an academic pushy school incase anyone mentions their results against other schools. Thanks x

Hi I am looking at St Christopher’s in letchworth, I’d love your feedback please

muminherts · 25/01/2025 15:50

@SopJaum it might be a good idea to start your own thread if you want people to respond to your circumstances? I’ve also sent you a pm

Hi I am looking at St Christopher’s in letchworth, I’d love your feedback please

As someone who attended the senior school from 2016-2019, unless they really really cleaned up their act in a major way I would strongly recommend against it, especially if your kids have any learning disabilities or autism etc.

muminherts · 15/03/2025 17:26

@ghostcohort there is a completely different leadership team in place now. I will pm you with a bit of intel.

LetchworthMum22 · 15/03/2025 22:41

There is not a completely different leadership team in place. The former Deputy who started there in 2017 is now the Head. Same problems, different face.

muminherts · 16/03/2025 00:09

@LetchworthMum22 Rich Jones could well have started as Deputy in Sept 2017, now I’m counting back, but obviously would have been new then and didn’t have the reins of the school then as he does now. Eight years is a long time in schools and I think I’m right that the Deputy Head and Assistant Heads came after 2017 (unless I’ve missed someone?)

We love the school, our kids are very happy there and the school did get a really good set of results in the exams last summer which is always nice to see, but I appreciate people have different views and experiences of every school and also that not all schools suit all kids.

CanteringAlong · 16/03/2025 16:00

what are the 'same problems' please? I have pinned my hopes on this school for my children as I loved it at the tours.

muminherts · 16/03/2025 16:48

@CanteringAlong I guess no school is going to have every parent equally in love with it. Every school on here has its share of haters from what I see on these threads. Some parents think the school isn’t pushy enough academically. The odd parent has taken their kids out preferring single sex. Some London kids do get fed up of the commute and then leave at sixth form although I’m pretty sure we were told at a school presentation recently that the sixth form is the most subscribed it’s ever been.

I would say don’t panic and you are making a really good choice! The vast majority of parents we know are really happy with St Chris. They have good ISI, good academic results, really happy kids. We have been at the school for a long time and we really haven’t seen any major issues beyond the odd thing like you would get at any school.

CanteringAlong · 17/03/2025 14:29

thank you so much!

LemonEarrings · 24/04/2025 13:52

Hi all! We're also considering this school for our DS so would be very interested in any info on it, particularly wrt SEN and neurodiversity! DS is in Yr 5 at the moment, so we'd be looking for 2026 entry. He has an ASD diagnosis (no EHCP atm) is at mainstream school with an LSP and is academically solid (except for in Writing, which is a massive struggle). Not sure I'd describe him as "quirky" necessarily, but he's fairly reserved, anxious and sport averse (like his parents!) and quite strong-willed! Our hope is to find somewhere less big, stressful and uniform-focussed (yes, I've read the threads and know there is a whole can of worms there, but uniform is genuinely a challenge!) than the state options. We're due to visit next week, so of course will form our own opinions, but would hugely appreciate any insider POVs! 🤗

muminherts · 24/04/2025 21:30

Hi @LemonEarrings loving the user name! I will send you a pm!

LemonEarrings · 25/04/2025 09:36

Hi @muminherts ! Thank you! I got some recently and they make me so happy! 😍🍋(It's the little things! 😂) Thank you so much for the PMs - just responding now. x

CanteringAlong · 17/05/2025 21:10

.lemonearrings what did you decide?

muminherts · 18/05/2025 14:47

@LemonEarrings just tagging you as @CanteringAlong‘s tag didn’t work I don’t think!

LemonEarrings · 18/05/2025 17:53

Hi @CanteringAlong . Like you, we really liked the school at the open day and will be applying for a place, possibly Y6 if it's doable at this point, but most likely Y7 (2026) as DS is fairly set on doing his final primary year at his current school. How about you? Thanks @muminherts for the tag!

CanteringAlong · 18/05/2025 18:08

we really don't know when to move!

LemonEarrings · 19/05/2025 09:24

Oh no! I don't envy you having to make that decision! I don't know if we will be in a position to choose, but I know it will be a difficult one if we are. Good luck!

Reviving the thread as I toured the school. I was pinning my hopes on this school for my academically able autistic child who is vulnerable to bullying. It really seemed v focused on pupil wellbeing so I hope bullying to be dealt with swiftly.

Hi, just wondering if you decided to go with St Chris. I have an autistic kid who is quirky and prone to bullying and am planning to visit the school soon. Hoping it is nurturing and inclusive. Any insights would be extremely helpful.

muminherts · 23/06/2025 12:51

I’ve sent you a pm @Atlas007 We do find it very nurturing.

Hippygeek · 24/08/2025 10:50

@CanteringAlong did you decide to go ahead??
Really interested to hear parents POV of st Chris. My daughter is in y5 so about to start looking round the schools. We are in the area, and have already looked around the usual suspects in town- and were quite impressed with most of them.
Our daughter is dyspraxic, and undergoes speech therapy. She is friendly and happy at primary school but I worry about bullying and how new children will react towards her.
She ok academically but prefers more hands on things like sports, animals, cubs etc.

It feels like st chris could be a good fit but I’d be really interested in others opinions.

muminherts · 31/08/2025 08:09

@Hippygeek you can send me a pm if you like and happy to answer any questions you have.

Lots of dc at St Chris similar to your dd and the animals are great. In our experience there is very little bullying and where it occasionally happens (as it does in all schools) the school stamps on it.

Hippygeek · 01/09/2025 06:20

@muminherts thank you so much. From what I have read and heard from parents I really think this could be the school for her.
excited to go to the open day later this month!

CanteringAlong · 06/09/2025 21:18

Sorry just seen this question to me. We couldn't move right now as we are too far and it would be too long in the car either way primary aged children.

LetchworthMum22 · 23/03/2026 09:48

As of March 2026, St Christopher School, Letchworth is being investigated for historic sexual abuse by Hertfordshire police. They are also being sued by the complainants after sending "aggressive lawyers" after them last year. It has also come out that a paedophile was working in the Junior School between 2018 and 2023. Search "St Chris Jim Sands" and you can read the articles. He was caught for crimes outside the school, arrested by police and then sacked.

muminherts · 23/03/2026 14:53

Sadly historically modern style safeguarding regimes were not in place in schools in the UK prior to the 2000s. This affected numerous independent schools including some of the most prominent institutions, as Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer has recently written about so movingly in his autobiography, which explains what he experienced at his own school.

Current families we have spoken with at St Chris are incredibly sad to hear about the historic allegations in relation to boarders at the school. It is really important to be aware that what has been reported dates from over 20 years ago and has no bearing on the school as it is now, which is a very safe and caring place.
