Hi all, with GCSEs coming up I've seen lots of posts about revision materials for GCSEs.
Since languages can often be a really overwhelming subject, I wanted to share my top 5 revision tips to get ready for GCSE language exams.
- Know exactly what is required of you in each of the 4 exams
- Know what your strengths and weaknesses are in each of the 4 skills, and prioritise your weaknesses!
- Build revision into your daily routine and make it as easy as possible - for example keep your vocab lists out where you can see them and practice just 5 minutes a day and you'll easily be able to remember the key vocab
- Use past papers as revision materials, get familiar with the topics and vocabulary that comes up (you'll see the same things coming up again and again)
- If you're really struggling to keep up with what's being taught in class, you probably need to work on the basics - building a strong foundation in grammar and vocabulary is going to make everything else so. much. easier.
My final piece of advice would be that if your child is really struggling or feeling overwhelmed, they are likely to get demotivated and lose confidence. Lack of confidence and self-belief even in one subject can affect all their other subjects. If they're really struggling, I would suggest that you reach out and get help from a tutor or teacher.
I'd love to know if anyone has any other tips you would recommend!
GCSEs are such a stressful time, but let's help each other to survive it :)
