I would 2nd that: go with material you are totally confident with, it means you can show more of your teaching personality rather than also having to contend with what comes next. I thought that lesson you outlined sounded really good and the sort that could be adapted/curtailed to fit the time. 25 mins will fly by!

DualCycloneCod · 12/02/2008 22:11

oh god thanks guys
am spenidng a totalyl dispropritonate time thinkign about it.

thought you already had a job. Is this another one?

Slouchy · 14/02/2008 08:30

Cod - think your idea sounds VG. Let us know how it goes.

at my lesson idea starting you off. (I nicked this one from a mate, not an original slouchy i'm afraid. Good though!)

Moomin · 15/02/2008 12:10

Your idea sounds great Cod - stick with that.
Heated is right - your management of the task and the kids will be the most important thing, so stick to a simple format.
The idea of the paired/group work is spot on - do lots of circulating and intercating at this point. The phone calls are fab (very 'VAK' which is a wanky buzz word in education at moment).
Make sure you make it clear that the kids will need to use their listening skills to do well, as you'll have to interrupt them in their mid-flow and light be hard to shut up.
Remember to put learning objectives up on the board to start with (either on Powerpoint or if you don't want to fanny aboutwith ICT, print onto a sheet to stick up maybe).
And leave time for a plenary: what have we learned?
'Best Practice' lesson plans have:
Learning Objectives clearly displayed
Starter activity
Intro
Development
Plenary

Boring stuff to ask in advance, but will look good to the interviewrs

Any IEPs to be available on the kids in the class
Any Cultural issues to be aware of
What have they already covered in the SOW, can you build on the lass lesson and sow progression

Have you aims set, and the sucess creteria for the children ie what will they be able to do at the end of the lesson that will show how spiffy your teaching has been. How will assess the sucess of the kids in meeting your aims.

Great thing with an unknown class is to get the class list and have a 'No Hands Up' lesson, you ask a question, wait and then take out a lolly stick with a kids name on it....makes all the class take part.

Have traffic lights, green means they understand, amber not sure, red, confused.

Blandmum · 15/02/2008 15:17

Sometimes!

I always do the lollypop thing. It works a treat and stops one or two kids doing all the work. It also helps me to learn the little beggers names!

My dc3 starts school in September - he does one long day at nursery at the moment (till3) and I am already finding it a bit boring - even though there is plenty of stuff to do at home (which is partly the point of him staying all day)
