College interview uniform or not?

My DD has a college interview on Friday and has just had a wobble after talking to her friends.

It is during the school day so she was going to go to school then go to her interview (also a group presentation so lots of other students) and then back to school so was going to attend in her uniform. Her friends have said she needs to get changed so now she wants to stay at home before the interview (apparently you can't change in the car)

Obviously she doesn't want me to post on fb, but has agreed for me to ask MN. So MN is uniform fine?

compromise with school uniform but wear trousers instead of a skirt, remove tie and blazer & throw a hoodie on over the shirt?

When I interviewed school pupils at college, most of them wore uniform unless the interview was scheduled late in the day (4:30pm onwards).

Thank you both, she isn't one to throw a hoodie on but not wearing tie and blazer might be an idea.

@Cornishmumofone I thought uniform seed the most likely choice.

Most school leavers attending interviews wear uniform. One lecturer in particular always muses loudly in the workroom about the ones who don’t ‘they will have poor attendance, look, own clothes, no intention of going back to school!’. She’s harmless and rarely wrong 😂

Thank you @NoDairyNoProblem that will help enormously. I shall tell her that, she certainly doesn't want to be seen as someone that will be flakey and that will help her feel confident wearing her uniform.
Really pleased I asked MN now, thank you.

Best of luck to your DD for tomorrow @CrapAtTeenageParenting (ps. Terrible name, clearly doing a grand job!)

CrapAtTeenageParenting · 03/03/2023 12:39

Thank you @NoDairyNoProblem she has gone in her uniform, it definitely helped telling her your colleagues thoughts.
Just waiting for her to finish so I can take her back to school.

Hope it all went well.

It did thanks, she has a conditional offer (needs to get her grades) and was told during the interview, apparently they don't always tell them straight away (no idea if this is true or not but has given her a massive boost)
About 1/3 wore uniform and they did gravitate to each other. She definitely had confidence from our chat and that is thanks to you. (Shit that is unmumsnetty)

Wonderful news, congratulations to your DD. We only ever tell clearly able candidates at the time and even then some departments have a written offer only policy. Glad to help, that’s what Mumsnet should be for.

Time to enjoy your weekend now.
