Claremont Fan Court School

Hello,
We are considering Claremont FC for my son, to start this September. I'd love some feedback please from someone who's child has been at the senior school for the last 3-4 years or so. Is the Head making a real difference to the school, does it feel like it's improving academically, with improved extra curricular options and sports etc? Whilst my child is at the 'expected' level academically, I'm hoping he will be pushed enough to get the most out of him. I liked the size/nurturing aspect of the school, and thought the Headship team seemed capable. I didn't think the sports results looked great, but I know that's not everything. They seemed to have decent A level results this year, but the GCSE results aren't great compared to other schools? Any feedback would be great, please, as I know traditionally in the past it has been considered more of a reserve option school. Thanks

@lot4 Have you chosen Claremont for your son? If so, please could you let me know how you find it? We are also considering it for our son for September 2024. Thanks

Hello @Surreymumx - I'm impressed and happy with our choice of Claremont FC, as is our son. He is 'average' academically and it was actually our reserve school for reasons that have already been mentioned on various threads (we were also on shortlists for Ibstock and Whitgift). He has made some good friends, the sport has really picked up (they are having more training sessions each week, plus there's a new Head of Sport). School comms is excellent, plus kids receive grade cards in the first term to give an idea of how they're doing (streaming takes place in maths only, in y7). From what I can see there's a real mix of academic abilities but most importantly, it's a nurturing, supportive and 'on it' school (I think the Head is excellent and recognises all abilities in the children). We're very happy with it, to date.

Thank you so much @lot4 for responding to me and reassuring what I thought, that the school is great. I got a great impression of the Head during the school visit. He seems very capable. I was also wondering how strong the community for the parents? In our current school we have a great community for the parents where we do dinner parties and go out together.(Coffee mornings, sports, events, parties etc) How is it in Claremont? Is it easy to make friends both for children and parents?
