Has your Year 11 started revising, DD doesn't know where to start and best way to do it!

DD needs to start revising. Except she doesn't know where to start, or how much she should be doing.

She has to revise in Welsh so resources are limited, and school aren't very helpful. She's not top set so will have to try hard.

What are the best ways of revising and how much per day. She has a dance class most nights but can revise between. The month before exams she'll drop them temporarily.

Any help would be appreciated.

My DD is like me and finds she retains information better when she writes things down. When she was revising she would write facts or important info on post it notes. The room she was using for revision was literally wallpapered with post it notes by the time her exams started.

My son uses the revision guides for the exam boards he is studying. He’s in the middle of his second set of mocks so has a good idea where he needs to do more work. He makes flash cards of important bits of information and gets us to test him on a section (using the revision guide which has suggested questions). He is out 2 evenings a week, I think if it was every night I’d be scaling back now - exams start in May - that’s only 8 weeks away.

No although I doubt DS will revise at all (sigh)

DD who is doing her alevels this summer has started already. She has made up a timetable and worked out how many topics she has in each subject then divided them across the time she has available. She did the same for gcses. I would say she is aiming for 2 hours revising a day and 2 hours homework (bit more at weekends).

How has she revised up til now eg for end of topic tests? What worked?

A timetable that lists out subject and topic would be a good start. What are they doing in class?

My daughter does blurring where she just writes down all the things she can remember on a specific thing. She can then use that to see where her gaps are.

Have a look at the Smile with Sola videos on YouTube. Lots of advice on there.
