clsg vs nlcs vs spgs

We are torn between these three great schools.

Very impressed with CLSG event yesterday. NLCS event/show today is also great. Going to the SPGS undecided meeting tomorrow.

DD is from state primary school, she is academic and works hard. She is confident & loud at home but has been quiet in social situations away from home. She is creative, likes DT, maths, arts & crafts and is less sporty.

Commute time wise NLCS is similar to CLSG, SPGS is further away so school coach is about an hour one way - we can move if we have to.

We are slightly leaning towards CLSG as it is more diversed and DD seems to fit the urban girl profile. However would love to hear any constructive opinions from MN parents with similar situation. Thank you.

Congratulations on three brilliant offers. DD is at SPGS and is very happy. A number of students travel some distance to the school. However, maybe two hours of travel each day is a lot for your DD, so maybe the other schools are a better fit. The class is also diverse in terms of backgrounds and economics. The school treats them as adults from day one, and rules are very light-touch. Feel free to DM me with any questions.

Wow Congratulations!

We have a DD in YR10 at CLSG and absolutely love the school and DD2 will be joining her this September. There's been a few threads recently discussing CLSG so do look them up and of course feel free to pm me if you want to know anything else.

We've turned down a few schools for the place at city including NLCS (a tough decision but NLCS is too far for us).

If you can't move to be close to St Pauls then 1 hour commute each way is too much IMO, especially as you have options.

well done getting all those offers! It does sound like CLSG is absolutely the right choice for you. Not a parent myself but a close friend's daughter who sounds very similar to yours in terms of personality started there last year and is super happy and thriving so far. I really don't think an hour on the coach to SPGS will be worth it given your situation and opportunity to attend City.

CLSG will likely suit your daughter very well. A huge state school intake - my daughter was one of 50% from state schools this year. V diverse, friendly and she’ll find her niche in all the brilliant extracurriculars. Congrats to your dd!

Three very good schools, we took
NLCS over CLSG because we loved the facilities and outdoor space. All schools offer Alevels, NLCS take 11 GCSES and CLSG 10, NLCS also offer IB and the girls can take 6 subjects. CLSG felt too urban for me and remember it draws girls from all over London, we are North London and so are all my daughters friends. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

All three are fantastic schools, congrats. You won't go wrong for any of these options. I just know that girls that travel more than one hour to SPGS is not unusual.

Curious to know what is your decision in the end.

The school frown on that though - their admissions for Year 7 policies explicitly say

"Students are required to live within a 50-minute commute of the school and we may decline to pursue an application where, in our opinion, it may require an unrealistically demanding journey for the student".

Obviously there is nothing to stop parents moving once their daughter has a place, but there is a reason they frown on long commutes!

PreplexJ · 24/02/2023 13:33

@PatriciaHolm I'm aware of this statement in the application form.

I am just stating the fact about some of the current students travel distance according to what I know, which is in contrary to the statement.

Interesting to see you're asking other people about their school decisions, while choosing not to divulge yours on the thread you've been on for months...

Different parents have different attitudes on share the bit of information they are willing to. As long as it is not deliberate fake information that misled others I don't see any problem with that.
