Jags vs Colfe year 7

My daughter has offers from JAGS, Colfe, Bromley GDST and Sydenham GDST.
we’re conflicted between Colfe and JAGS. Does anyone has girls at either school? Pros/Cons?

For JAGS parents, given all the fuss two years ago re sexual harassment, how do you feel your daughters are faring there?
Also would love insights on extra-curricular and pastoral at both schools from parents who have girls there or know more of them than I do.

For parents whose girls have moved from all-girls to a Co-Ed, how was the transition?

My daughter is currently at Syd GDST and has a scholarship offer from there. We’re closer to Colfe than JAGS by about 14 minutes but commute is not a huge factor.

Appreciate any and all input.

We had exactly same dilemma last year and opted for JAGS. Pm me if you have any questions about JAGs.

The sexual harassment, predominantly of teenage girls by their male counterparts was not fuss but (I hope) hugely significant in empowering girls to raise their concerns without being placated and dismissed as banter, boys will be boys.

I can’t really comment on JAGS’ role in this as the perpetrators were by and large male so no sexual harassment at the school. I know Sydenham High girls were also affected - I certainly know a 20-something year old ex SH pupil who remembers how she and her friends would avoid all boys from a certain local school.

The teachers all seem very approachable- the girls can readily contact them on teams with queries.
I guess you will only really know how good the pastoral care is once you need it.

Did you want to know anything in particular about the extracurricular activities?

It definitely not “fuss”. Apologies for making it seem less significant than it actually was. We take it very seriously hence the trepidation.

I wanted to find out more about the balance of academics and extracurricular. My daughter is interested in languages, history, drama and debating. Definitely also into netball.

Colfe had lovely facilities which isn’t surprising given the amount of funding boys schools and coeds get in comparison to girls only. We didn’t have the chance to tour JAGS.

Sorry, I felt bad after my mini rant as I figured you didn’t mean it that. I am just on a bit of a mission to calm out things that minimise girls’/women’s experiences!

Re: extracurricular
There are plenty of sports clubs open to anyone who wants to take part of any ability - football, hockey, netball, waterpolo etc
All year 7s rotate through languages - , Japanese, Russian, one of French or Spanish (whichever is not being done as the Y7 MFL) others.
There is debating club, street dance and probably drama although my DD doesn’t do it so I can’t be sure.
